The City of Virginia Beach is located on the southern shore of Chesapeake Bay (Figure 1). Ocean coast dunes were not included in this assessment. Primary tidal shorelines extend from Cape Henry westward to Little Creek Inlet. Eight (8) dune sites were identified along the City of Virginia Beach shoreline on the southern shore of Chesapeake Bay (Figure 2). It is the intent of this publication to provide the user with information on the status of dunes in City of Virginia Beach.
