Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

This thesis researches and evaluates the current technologies available for developing a system for propagation of Real-Time Data from a large scale Enterprise Server to large numbers of registered clients on the network. The large scale Enterprise Server being implemented is a Contact Centre Server, which can be a standalone system or part of a multi-nodal system. This paper makes three contributions to the study of scalable real-time notification services. Firstly, it defines the research of the different technologies and their implementation for distributed objects in today's world of computing. Secondly, the paper explains how we have addressed key design …

Application Packaging Tracking System, Cormac Quillinan Aug 2007

Application Packaging Tracking System, Cormac Quillinan

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

In the business world it is very difficult to manage and track user application installations and licensing. The primary problem with this area is currently there is no single solution that encapsulates the entire process. The current commercially available tracking systems, such as SMS, DevTrack and Installshield Tracking system, do not provide a complete solution. These products provide partial solutions. However, they do not address the entire problem. In this thesis we proposed an Application Packaging Tracking System. This system tracks application installations throughout the entire process, from submission to deployment.

The incentive for this research came from the need to solve a fundamental problem many companies face when transferring data across multi-platform applications: how to deploy XML interfaces that integrate easily with other systems. The goal of this project was to identify a solution for Company ABC when integrating XML interfaces with customers, partners, and vendors. The project researches the need and development of data standards that can solve one of the key problems with XML - interoperability. Through the use of a common language, companies can utilize data formats and schemas developed by data standards organizations operating in their …

Network Performance Monitor And Electronic Mail/Smtp Gateway For The Regis Academic Research Network, Steven F. Martin

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

The Academic Research Network (ARN) is in need of a means of monitoring servers and other nodes on the network. That need is driven by the requirement to remotely monitor and support the sprawling network resources between campuses, provide real-time network status reports, and immediate reports of downed nodes. An additional need is electronic mail (e-mail) to serve the practicum students and administrators, but primarily to provide a mail gateway through which Internet mail can be transported in order to provide the aforementioned alerts.

Model-Driven Software Development, Susan Minton Apr 2007

Model-Driven Software Development, Susan Minton

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Model-Driven Software Development (MDSD) is an emerging technology approach that has potential to revolutionize the software industry. MDSD has the ability to both increase software delivery velocity, while at the same time reduce complexity and reuse software assets. Experts in the field believe that the MDSD approach helps to abstract away the growing interdependencies of enterprise software development by use of sophisticated tools, models, and automatic code generation. Through the use of Unified Modeling Language (UML/UML2) and other related technologies, the models are intricate enough to fully represent a system domain and then generate system code to represent that system. …

Near Real-Time Extract, Transform And Load, Wei-Chwen Soon Wilson

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

The integrated Public Health Information System (iPHIS) system requires a maximum one hour data latency for reporting and analysis. The existing system uses trigger-based replication technology to replicate data from the source database to the reporting database. The data is transformed into materialized views in an hourly full refresh for reporting. This solution is Central Processing Unit (CPU) intensive and is not scaleable. This paper presents the results of a pilot project which demonstrated that near real-time Extract, Transform and Load (ETL), using conventional ETL process with Change Data Capture (CDC), can replace this existing process to improve performance and …

This thesis describes a technical solution that improved the software development efforts needed to verify and validate a medical device, herein referred to as the “medical device.” The medical device had many software and hardware configurations that had to be developed, integrated, managed, and tested. There were a number of problems with the manual processes that were being used to verify and validate the product, so this project developed a system called the “Software Assembly Line” to continuously build software and automatically test it on multiple hardware configurations. As a result, software quality and predictability were improved, and the number …

Network Access Control: Disruptive Technology?, Craig Fisher Jan 2007

Network Access Control: Disruptive Technology?, Craig Fisher

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Network Access Control (NAC) implements policy-based access control to the trusted network. It regulates entry to the network by the use of health verifiers and policy control points to mitigate the introduction of malicious software. However the current versions of NAC may not be the universal remedy to endpoint security that many vendors tout. Many organizations that are evaluating the technology, but that have not yet deployed a solution, believe that NAC presents an opportunity for severe disruption of their networks. A cursory examination of the technologies used and how they are deployed in the network appears to support this …
