Isoproturon Evaluation - Timing Of Application On Efficacy And Crop Damage., R. Madin, J. Buckley

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

The trial was effectively a tolerance trial. Best overall weed control was achieved with Glean and the higher rates of Isoproturon which in turn gave best control as a pre-plant, incorporated treatment.

Post Emergence Weed Control In Lupins., R. Madin, J. Buckley Jan 1987

Post Emergence Weed Control In Lupins., R. Madin, J. Buckley

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

As a general assessment in can be said that Tigrex is a safe and efficient herbicide for control of radish in wheat. Brodal alone was generally unsatisfactory for radish control. While Diuron + Brodal was safe and efficient, Ally and Brodal should not be used together. Diuron + MCPA gave poorer control than one would normally expect.

Control Of Peas And Lupins In Wheat, J. R. Peirce, B. J. Rayner

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

Trial 87A29

Lupins were easier to kill than peas.

Glean applied pre-sowing gave very poor control of both peas and lupins.

The treatment using higher rates of 2,4-D amine in diuron mix also caused lower yields.

The Tordon 242 treatment appeared to cause some yield depression.

Trial 87LG65

Glean post-em @ 10 and 15 g/ha gave good control.

A later trial gave good control with Garlon 4800 or 2,4-D amine when sheep grazed the weed after treatment. Considerable pasture damage would be done with all chemicals during the growing season.

Manipulation Of The Soil Seed Reserves Of Bromus Diandrus And B. Rigidus By Enhancing The Breakdown In Seed Dormancy., A H. Cheam

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

Location: South Perth Field Plots

Previous studies on the seed bank of Bromus diandrus indicated that shallow burial of newly shed seeds enhanced the breakdown in seed dormancy over the summer period. To bury the Bromus seeds one practical approach is to introduce sheep into the paddock.
This study is a repeat of the previous work but included B. rigidus, another species of Bromus, that is commonly ground growing in association with B. diandrus.
Location: South Perth Field Plots.

Crop Establishment, R. Madin, J. Buckley

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

Trial effect of timing of Roundup CT and Spray.Seed application and cultivation on crop establishment and growth.
87WH53, 87NO85

The general tendency was for yield to decrease as the time to seeding after Spray.Seed application increased.
For trial 87NO85 the site was a 'problem', heavy textured soil where crop emergence problems following glyphosate had been experienced in previous years.

Crop establishment - time of seeding following herbicide application.
87A37

Use of a knockdown herbicide greatly increased yield when compared to the unsprayed treatments. Further work is required to resolve contrasting results.

Tolerance Of Ceral Varieties To Grasp, R. Madin, J. Buckley

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

The site remained mostly weed free throughout the season apart from some invasion by crassula spp. between plots. Some site variation was reflected in yield variation between replicates. The effects of Grasp on all varieties of wheat and Schooner barley were evident soon after spraying.

Evaluation Of Additives With Bracken Herbicides Applied To Boomsprayer., R. Madin, J. Buckley

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

Treatments were applied in December 1987. Height of the Bracken made application by boom difficult due to inability to adequately raise the boom to give clearance. Some brushing of the Bracken with the boom was unavoidable. Assessment of the trial will be made in March 1988.

The Demography Of Doublegee. Ecological Studies On Arum Lily., F. D. Panetta Jan 1987

The Demography Of Doublegee. Ecological Studies On Arum Lily., F. D. Panetta

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

3.1 Growth of doublegees under summer irrigation. (87A40)

The weevil, Perapion antiquum is a potential biological control agent of doublegee. However, it exhibits large population crashes during the summer months in the summer-dry areas of the Western Caped of South Africa, where it is native. It has been suggested that one means of successfully establishing Perapion in Western Australia could be to maintain populations in 'oases' over the summer months. The aim of this experiment was to determine how readily doublegee could be maintained in a non-senescent phase under irrigated and shaded conditions.

3.2 Doublegee demography in cereal crops (87GE30) …

Effect Of Different Chemical Treatments On Capeweed Control And Crop Yield., J. R. Peirce, B. J. Rayner Jan 1987

Effect Of Different Chemical Treatments On Capeweed Control And Crop Yield., J. R. Peirce, B. J. Rayner

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

Trial 87WH60

Control of capweed was obtained using post-emergence in-crop herbicides. Good control was on most of the treatments applied before seeding.

Most products showed good ryegrass control are not usually effective, assume some other factor operating. Treatment usually associated with good ryegrass control have higher ryegrass densities than the treatments using herbicides with only broadleaved variety.

Although large reductions in density of silvergrass were obtained none was significantly better than the unsprayed. Some treatments particularly those favouring grass dominance allowed silvergrass density to build up.

Bromegrass appears to be very sensitive to competition from capeweed. Where there was high …

Chemical Control Of Skeleton Weed., J. R. Peirce, B. J. Rayner

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

Trial PE17

Tordon 50 D & Lontrel L appear to be the only chemicals that will give effective reduction in the density of skeleton weed. However both these chemicals also removed all other broadleaved weeds present (capeweed, clover and flatweed), leaving the treated areas grass dominant.
