Mr447: Seasonal Water Table And Temperature Relationships In Calcareous Till And Residual Soils Of Central Maine, David E. Turcotte, Christopher C. Dorion, Nicholas R. Butler, Ivan J. Fernandez

Miscellaneous Reports

Water table depths and soil temperatures were monitored for four growing seasons in six calcareous till pedons developed on gently rolling to level till plains in Corinth and Exeter, Maine. These soils are part of a new catena that supports potato production in southeastern Penobscot County. Three of these coarse-loamy to fine-loamy pedons are moderately well drained Oxyaquic Eutrudepts taxadjuncts in potato fields, and three are somewhat poorly drained Aquic Dystric Eutrudepts in predominantly deciduous forest. Soil morphology, hydrologic data, and a,a dipyridyl applications support the described subgroup classification of each pedon, along with the udic moisture regime. Despite a …

MONALISA 2.0

In this project, three case studies are considered in order to examine the economic impact of the implementation of MSP when considering environmental impact of the shipping industry. Specific characteristics and limitations of areas in the Greek Sea, the Balearic Sea and the Baltic Sea are evaluated with respect to their economic effects on the maritime transport domain.

The purpose of the above is to evaluate the economic impacts and risk implications of different scenarios and particularly:

  • The economic impact of vessel traffic rerouting and/or reducing the speed in order to reduce the probability of vessel strikes or other negative …

Controlling Surface Chemistry Of Liquid Metals To Enhance Their Fluidic Properties, Nahid Ilyas Nov 2015

Controlling Surface Chemistry Of Liquid Metals To Enhance Their Fluidic Properties, Nahid Ilyas

Physics Seminars

Gallium liquid metal alloys (GaLMA) are one of the key components of emerging technologies in reconfigurable, flexible, and printable electronics. Surface properties of GaLMA play important roles in its application in reconfigurable devices, such as tunable radio frequency antennas and electronic swilches. Reversible flow of GaLMA in microchannels of these types of devices is hindered by the presence of an oxide skin that forms spontaneously in ambient environment. The oxide film sticks to most surfaces leaving unwanted residues behind that can cause undesired electronic properties. This presentation describes a novel method that enables the movement of gallium liquid metal alloys …

Algebraic Complexity Theory, Jerzy Weyman Oct 2015

Algebraic Complexity Theory, Jerzy Weyman

Dalrymple Lecture Series

I will discuss the basic notions related to the complexity theory. The classes of P and NP problems will be defined, with examples given. Besides discussing the statements of the problems, I will talk about the effectiveness of algorithms used in linear algebra (multiplying matrices and solving the systems of linear equations). No previous knowledge of complexity theory will be assumed, however some knowledge of linear algebra (matrices and their multiplication) will be needed.

2015 Program, Office Of Academic Affairs

Programs

A university is more than an amalgamation of several colleges. It also is an organization which celebrates the full richness of faculty contributions including those vital and exciting contributions in research, scholarship and creative activity within their disciplines. These contributions come in many forms: journal articles, book chapters, monographs, art works, music compositions, performances of many varieties and a host of others. Funded research contributions are similarly varied. Through such activities, faculty members stay at the growing edges of their fields, and in so doing, they enrich their intellectual lives as well as those of their students.
