Proactive Management In Academic Libraries: Promoting Improved Communication And Inclusion Of Academic Librarians And Archivists In Cybersecurity Policy Creation, Paul J. Luft

Theses and Dissertations

Although increasing cybersecurity threats continue in libraries, not many studies are available which examine surrounding cybersecurity policies. Even less has been done on specific types of libraries such as academic and archives. When it comes to academic libraries, cybersecurity policies take a top-down approach to managing and creating policies. The problem is that both academic libraries and archives are unique areas within a university setting. Some of the general policies do not always handle specific issues dealt with in an academic library or archives. This paper investigates if an actual gap or void in policy exists which could create issues …

Recombinant Expression Of Preptin Analogs For Alanine Scanning Mutagenesis Of Residues 27-29, Tehgan N. Anguilm

Theses and Dissertations

The novel peptide preptin consists of 34 amino acid residues corresponding to Asp69-Leu102 of proinsulin-like growth factor E-peptide. Preptin has been isolated from pancreatic beta cells, and it has been found to exhibit both metabolic and mitogenic activities. This makes preptin an attractive candidate to treat insulin-independent diabetes and osteoporosis. Alanine scanning mutagenesis was utilized to substitute an alanine for residues Trp27, Arg28, and Gln29 of preptin in order to ultimately study the structure-activity relationship of these residues to preptin’s metabolic activity.

Data Gathering In Cognitive Radio Ad Hoc And Sensor Wireless Networks, Kimberly A. Brown May 2019

Data Gathering In Cognitive Radio Ad Hoc And Sensor Wireless Networks, Kimberly A. Brown

Theses and Dissertations

Data gathering is a network communication task in which all of the network’s nodes send their individual messages to a distinguished sink node. In cognitive radio ad hoc and sensor wireless networks (CR-AHSWNs), unlicensed secondary users (SUs) opportunistically use channels when the licensed primary users are not using them. Therefore, the channels available to each SU vary with time and location, which makes the development of data gathering algorithms for CR-AHSWNs challenging. In this thesis, a data gathering protocol for CR-AHSWNs is proposed. The protocol consists of several distributed SU action selection and channel selection algorithms. An algorithm that can …

Carbon Limitation In Periphytic Algal Wastewater Treatment Systems, Brandon J. Furnish Jan 2018

Carbon Limitation In Periphytic Algal Wastewater Treatment Systems, Brandon J. Furnish

Theses and Dissertations

As global eutrophication poses an ever increasing threat to water quality new techniques must be implemented to improve the sustainability of natural resource consumption. Wastewater treatment facilities (WWTF) are designed to destroy pathogens, remove particulates, lower oxygen demanding substances, and reduce nutrients from influent waste water to avoid the degradation of receiving waters. WWTF are generally effective, however they are mostly inadequate at removing nutrients. When wastewater derived nutrients such as nitrate and phosphate are discharged to receiving waters, they stimulate algal blooms. Algal blooms can reduce dissolved oxygen, block sunlight for submerged aquatic plants, and render state waters unusable …
