This shoreline management plan is useful for evaluating and planning shoreline management strategies appropriate for all the creeks and rivers of Charles City. It ties the physical and hydrodynamic elements of tidal shorelines to the various shoreline protection strategies.

The City of Hampton Beachfront and Storm Protection Management Plan (Waterway Surveys, VIMS, and URS, 2011) provides a conceptual plan for the placement of structures along Hampton’s shoreline (Figure 1). The Shoreline Studies Program (SSP) at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) provided the original shoreline modeling used for this plan in 1999. The modeling was used to provide guidance on structure placement for management of the entire beach fronting shoreline. The purpose of this data report is to document how the shore zone of York (Figure 1) has evolved since 1937. Aerial imagery was taken for most of the Bay region beginning that year,and can be used to assess the geomorphic nature of shore change. The Yorktown Public Beach is located on the south side of the York River at Yorktown,Virginia (Figure 1). Recently, it has undergone dramatic transformation with the construction of floating piers, upscale restaurants and shops, parking garage, and additional shore management structures. This report presents a comprehensive shoreline management plan for Colonial National Historical Park (COLO) along its York River coast. In addition, COLO property at Swanns Point on the James River was addressed (Figure 1-1). Primary tidal shorelines extend from Smith Point southward to Indian Creek along Chesapeake Bay and northwestward up the Potomac River to the Yeocomico River. Fifty-nine (59) dune sites were identified along the Northumberland County shoreline. Thirty seven (37) were located on Chesapeake Bay and the remainder along the Potomac River. It is the intent of this publication to provide the user with information on the status of dunes in Northumberland County. The goal of the present study is to identify the best course of action to manage shoreline erosion in Saxis and to provide a detailed Shoreline Management Plan with Habitat Enhancement which can be presented to potential State and Federal funding agencies. This report presents the results of the analyses of a suite of sediment samples that was collected from the York River Estuary, including portions of the Mattaponi and Pamunkey Rivers. Samples from the York were taken in November, 1991, the Pamunkey in December, 1991, and Mattaponi in February, 1992. The intent of the project was to obtain an archive of "background" and "status" information on the bottom sediments of the system.
