Maturity Models are organizational management tools that have been developed and used for decades as organizations' way of responding to the constant pressure of trying to achieve and maintain competitive advantage through concurrent innovation, quality improvement, and cost reduction. Consumer empowerment has gained a significant attention in the medical field recently, and despite the ambiguity of its definitions, elements and measurement tools, it is apparent that mobile and other communication technology can play a major role in keeping patients informed, involved and empowered. This paper aims to explore methods by which mobile applications contribute to consumer empowerment and allowed enhanced patient control over their health.
