The purpose of this self-study was to explore and understand my subjective lived experience and expression of the phenomenon of authenticity, which included identifying the components of my professional identity; discerning the challenges, barriers, and limitations to my full experience and expression of authenticity; establishing awareness of when I am and when I am not engaging fully with my authenticity; and developing a sense of authenticity within myself that is adaptable to a variety of situations and relationships. The purpose of Move About It, a movement- based prevention workshop was to increase awareness, knowledge, and empowerment for high school students by engaging in sexual abuse prevention education. This workshop will address: spatial awareness and boundary education, develop decision-making skills, create community safety plans, and bring awareness to sexual abuse through social media. The purpose of this self-study was to engage in an in-depth embodied artistic inquiry of my experience of self-compassion. My research questions were: How can self-compassion support my work as a dance/movement therapist? How does my body inform and communicate my experience of self-compassion? How do I experience self-compassion? Data was collected through video recorded dance/movement and creative journaling, by responding to moments of suffering with self-compassion. Data was analyzed concurrently through dialogue transcript and was further analyzed at the end of data collection using creative synthesis. 87 pages.

The purpose of this project was to create tools for self-care practices that help second year dance/movement therapy (DMT) students at Columbia College Chicago cope with possible risks encountered within clinical practice. The importance of developing effective self-care habits for practitioners in therapeutic professions is emphasized in literature, and it is encouraged that this self-care practice is developed during a student’s graduate training experience. Literature in the areas of therapists’ self-care practices, counselor development, burnout, compassion fatigue, countertransference, somatic countertransference, therapist distress, and vicarious traumatization are reviewed.
