Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an acute infectious disease that often requires hospitalization with a variable length of stay (LOS). Several factors have been shown to influence LOS; however, findings from previous studies conducted in different hospitals remain inconsistent. This study aimed to analyze the association between age, gender, platelet count, hematocrit level, and leukocyte count with LOS among patients with DHF at Nahdlatul Ulama Islamic Hospital (RSI NU) Demak. This study employed a cross-sectional design using medical record data from 64 hospitalized patients with DHF admitted between January and May 2025, selected through purposive sampling. The sample eligibility criteria …

Optimal utilization of the operating room (OR) is a crucial element in improving the efficiency of surgical services and hospital performance. This scoping review aimed to identify and map the factors influencing OR utilization based on recent scientific literature. We conducted a scoping review using the Population–Concept–Context (PCC) framework and reported it according to the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. We systematically searched PubMed, Scopus, and ScienceDirect for articles published between 2015 and 2025. Eligible studies were screened, and information on study characteristics and reported determinants of OR utilization was extracted and summarized descriptively. Forty studies were included. The reported determinants clustered into …

Medical record administration is an essential component in supporting healthcare service quality. During the transition toward Electronic Medical Records (EMR), many hospitals still use semi-digital systems that combine conventional and electronic processes. This study aimed to describe semi-digital medical record administration at RSU X, Depok City, based on the Man, Money, Material, Method, and Machine (5M) management elements and the Planning, Organizing, Actuating, and Controlling (POAC) management functions. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach through in-depth interviews and observations involving five informants. The results showed that the semi-digital system operated through the parallel use of physical medical records and …
Facilitators And Barriers To Mobile Health Unit Implementation: A Qualitative-Dominant Mixed Methods Study Exploring Staff Perspectives And Service Outreach, Kelsey Hardin
MUSC Theses and Dissertations
Background: Health disparities are linked to rising healthcare costs in the United States, particularly related to healthcare accessibility. Mobile Health Units (MHUs) have proven to be an effective intervention in reducing barriers to healthcare services, for example, providing early access to prenatal care, thus reducing infant mortality rates. This study focused on the facilitators and barriers to implementing an MHU program, based on staff perspectives and service outreach, to improve maternal and infant health outcomes.
Methods: This study employed a qualitative-dominant mixed-methods research design. Data was collected through interviews to assess staff perspectives. Secondary data analysis of quantitative data was …

Outpatient registration services represent a critical touchpoint in the patient experience at hospitals. A mismatch between expectations and the actual service delivered can affect patient satisfaction. Public hospitals continue to face complaints related to the registration process, such as long waiting times, unclear information, and inadequate waiting facilities. This study aims to assess patient satisfaction with outpatient registration services by comparing expectations and perceptions based on Expectancy Disconfirmation Theory and by using the Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) method to provide service improvement recommendations. This quantitative study employed an analysis of identically similar characteristics of paired Expectation and Perception 84 patients, …

Optimal cancer management requires a multidisciplinary approach to improve the quality of patient care. Multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) enable interprofessional collaboration in designing comprehensive, patient-centered care. However, the implementation of MDTs in Indonesia still faces various challenges, necessitating a systematic review to understand their effectiveness in improving cancer management outcomes. This systematic review employed the PRISMA method, searching articles from the ScienceDirect, Semantic Scholar, and PubMed databases, published between 2014 and 2024. Ten scientific articles were analyzed from 745 articles retrieved to understand the effectiveness of MDTs in improving cancer management outcomes. The results indicate that MDTs improve the quality of …

The Connection Between Medicaid And Obesity In Northeast Ohio, Emmie Kelley, Sophie Kheder
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
Obesity is a major public health concern in the United States that is projected to increase exponentially over the next few years. Obesity is commonly associated with a lower socioeconomic status. Lower-income individuals tend to be supported by Medicaid, a federal insurance program for low-income Americans. Prior studies have shown a positive correlation between income status and obesity prevalence. Our goal was to find if there was a correlation between Medicaid patients and obesity in Northeast Ohio, to provide physicians with a set of characteristics to better combat obesity, since preventative and treatment guidelines are tailored to national trends. We …

A Quality Improvement Initiative To Streamline Flu Vaccine Documentation And Increase Staff Engagement, Carla E. Giron
Master's Projects and Capstones
Objective: This quality improvement project was implemented in an urban community health clinic primarily serving low-income and Latinx patients. Factors such as demographics, socioeconomic status, health, and transportation contribute to low U.S. influenza vaccination rates (Chen et al., 2020), while EHR training can improve provider satisfaction and efficiency (DiAngi et al., 2019). This microsystem faced inconsistent workflow processes, limited EHR training, and documentation errors that contributed to low staff satisfaction rates and influenza vaccination rates. An average of 11.4% of patients received a flu vaccine in October 2023 and 2024. Medical assistants (MAs) completed a pre-intervention survey indicating that 35% …

Many preoperative and postoperative cataract patients struggle with comprehending the use of prescription medication as directed. Language barriers and low health literacy levels are major factors contributing to improper use of prescriptions. To increase patients comprehension, the Fort Lauderdale Eye Institute employed an educational intervention consisting of a live presentation and an instructional video. Results found that 44% of patients were hesitant to ask questions to clinical staff, 32% felt overwhelmed, and nearly 70% lacked confidence in using their prescribed eye drops. Following the intervention, 91% of patients reported increased confidence in their medications, and most indicated that the video …

Costs for UpToDate, the library’s primary point of care clinical tool, had increased to half of the acquisitions budget but without user affiliation data to facilitate cost sharing. A working group led by librarians was formed to review alternatives. Surveys indicated users preferred UpToDate and renewal was recommended by the working group, with costs being shared between the academic unit and the hospital. These results showed that the library can effectively lead analysis projects with this level of visibility, but persuading users to consider alternatives to a trusted tool can be challenging.
