Problem

Childhood caries is a preventable public health issue disproportionately affecting the underserved. National guidelines recommend fluoride varnish (FV) application during well‑child visits. In California, fewer than 15% of children under age six received FV. In a pediatric primary care clinic, baseline performance was 11% in 2025.

Context

A six‑month quality improvement project was implemented. Key barriers included reduced team cohesion, workflow variability, unclear roles, and underutilized electronic health record (EHR) prompts.

Interventions

The change package standardized medical assistant–led workflows, activated EHR prompts, and provided targeted education. Leadership reinforcement through regular huddles supported adoption, consistency, and team engagement.

Corporal punishment (CP) and severe physical punishment (SPP) remain a major public health, child rights, and child protection policy concern. In Egypt, despite legislative reforms, survey-weighted analysis of the 2021 Egypt Family Health Survey (EFHS) 2021 (CAPMAS, 2022) reveals prevalence rates of 60.5% for CP and 27.4% for SPP among children aged 1–14 (author’s calculations using EFHS-2021, n=7623), yet evidence distinguishing the determinants of routine corporal punishment from escalation to severe physical punishment remains limited in low- and middle-income contexts. The goal was to achieve at least a 70% improvement in documentation compliance within 12 weeks.

Background: Accurate restraint documentation is essential for patient safety, ethical practice, interdisciplinary communication, and regulatory compliance. Problem: Parents of children 2-5 years-old increasingly reach out to PCPs for escalating behavior concerns, including when the child doesn’t listen well, is inattentive, having tantrums, meltdowns, hitting, yelling, etc. Referrals to psychiatry and/or play therapy result in long waits, or referrals not accepted. Problem: Preventable hospital errors are often associated with inconsistent nursing competency, especially in high-acuity areas such as pediatric peri-anesthesia units. Traditional evaluation tools like checklists have limited effectiveness, as they frequently fail to engage staff or adapt to changing clinical demands (Wright, 2005). This study aims to measure perceptions of family centered care among expectant mothers in Columbus while assessing potential racial differences in order to improve prenatal outcomes. In order to do this, surveys were distributed to pregnant women at 10 clinics providing prenatal care in Columbus and sleep sacks were provided to women who completed the survey. There was a total of 401 surveys collected between August 2019 and January 2020. The conclusion being that one in five women report not receiving family centered care during their prenatal appointments, however there was no racial difference for family centered care.
