The goal of this study is to examine the effectiveness of physical activity in reducing the HbA1c among the type 2 diabetes patients of a local community health center in San Leandro, California. Two common procedures for cardiac revascularization are coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The purpose of this systemic review is to compare long-term outcomes of CABG and PCI in patients with severe artery disease. Standardization of patient discharges by utilizing a discharge checklist would address discharge barriers, improve discharge times, enhance communication among the multidisciplinary team, and improve efficiency of care. A 5-week pilot, which was a quality improvement study, explored whether the utilization of a discharge checklist would improve discharge times and communication among the multidisciplinary team. This study was conducted in a northern California county hospital, on 2 medical- surgical units, with a participating physician team, case managers, and approximately 150 medical- surgical registered nurses. Purpose: This systematic review seeks to explore whether utilizing Eat, Sleep, Console (ESC) over the Finnegan Neonatal Abstinence Scale (FNASS) in the neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) population decreases length of stay or pharmacological interventions.
Method: Systematic literature review utilizing CINAHL, PubMed and Google Scholar databases.
Results: Utilizing Eat Sleep Console, over FNASS decreased length of stay and pharmacologic intervention.
Conclusions: There is compelling research suggesting a change in NAS treatment from FNASS to ESC with a decrease in length of stay and pharmacologic intervention. However, there is an opportunity for further studies providing higher levels of evidence as the current …

In patients with chronic alcohol use disorder who experience a sudden cessation or significant decrease in alcohol consumption, half will experience symptoms of alcohol withdrawal syndrome. Benzodiazepines are the typical first line treatment for alcohol withdrawal. However, benzodiazepines carry with them significant risks and side effects. HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) medication is 99% effective at preventing HIV acquisition if used daily (CDC, 2020; FDA, 2019). Despite its effectiveness and wide availability, PrEP uptake and adherence remained low, especially among MSM of color (Bradley et al., 2019; Kuhns et al., 2017). Prior studies have shown that participants exposed to PrEP information, counseling, and education were more likely to show interest in PrEP and uptake of PrEP. Many clinicians continue to diagnose hypertension based on office-based readings, despite the 2015 United States Preventive Services Task Force recommendation for the use of home or ambulatory blood pressure monitoring to confirm the diagnosis of hypertension prior to initiating treatment. Without obtaining blood pressure readings outside of the clinic environment, it is impossible to correctly diagnose hypertension, particularly regarding masked hypertension and white coat hypertension.

University students have been assessed through many sexual health lenses, but there is a paucity of research on the sexual health of community college students. This population may provide good access to at-risk youth, and opportunity to reverse steep climbs in sexually transmitted infection (STI) rates. This research project pilot tests a theory-based intervention employing social facilitation to reduce STI risk among college students. Fifty students were recruited from Human Sexuality courses to participate in a 60-minute workshop. This study assessed the effectiveness of a culturally sensitive type 2 diabetes group education program delivered to Hispanic women in Merced County. Design: A pre-test post-test design. Purposeful sampling was used. Fifteen Hispanic women from a Merced County outpatient clinic were invited to participate in a culturally relevant group education workshop over a 6-week period. Four (N=4) women accepted the invitation, completed the educational workshop, and participated in the assessments. This is significant because fetal exposure to a known teratogen can have catastrophic outcomes. Furthermore, women are often ambivalent about birth control and many pregnancies are unplanned. This project explores why African American men choose Ostrich Behavior when it comes to health care prevention and maintenance as related to hypertension. The population was African American men, ages18–80, in Northern California. Men were recruited while getting a haircut or waiting for one or after church services. Blood pressure readings were taken and a health questionnaire was administered. The results show that even if hypertension is known, men ages 18–45 go to fewer office visits than African American men in other age groups, and older men tend to seek medical care and take medication if prescribed.
