Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) has become a major issue in the United States. Individuals with chronic disease such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or hyperlipidemia are at higher risk of CKD. Risk factors include family history, age, obesity, and smoking. Kidney function decreases with age and other related conditions. It is critical to increase awareness, education, and prevention of CKD to advanced practice nurses. Nurse practitioners encounter and have the responsibility to be able to identify and manage patients in their primary practice.
