Admission Criteria And Subsequent Academic Performance Of General Nursing Diploma Students, Parveen Azam Ali

OBJECTIVE: To determine the relationship between admission criteria used to select students and their subsequent academic performance in general nursing diploma Programme in the province of Sindh.

METHODS: Using a descriptive co-relational study design, data was collected retrospectively from records of the entire nursing student population of the batch of 2004. Using multiple linear regression analysis method, three regression models were developed to identify the group of variables that could predict academic performance of the students in the three-year general nursing diploma programme.

It is incumbent upon nursing programs to recognize the demographics and issues involved in training nursing students for whom English is not their first language. Project ESL used a variety of techniques to boost academic success, facilitate progress through graduation, and develop faculty sensitivity to language and cultural issues.

Communication errors are identified by the Joint Commission as the primary root cause of sentinel events across all categories. In addition, improving the effectiveness of communication among healthcare providers is listed as one of the Joint Commission’s 2008 National Patient Safety Goals. Nursing programs are expected to graduate practice-ready nurses who demonstrate quality and safety in patient care, which includes interdisciplinary communication. Through objectively structured clinical assessment simulations, faculty evaluate each nursing student’s ability to perform many aspects of care, including the ability to communicate effectively with physicians via telephone in an emergent situation. Patient Simulator Sessions And Critical Thinking, Patricia K. Ravert

The project purpose was too determine whether measures of critical thinking show differences between three groups (simulator, non-simulator, control) of baccalaureate nursing students. The second purpose was to determine the moderating effect of students' preferred learning style. All groups experienced a moderate to large effect size in critical thinking scores. The corrected model for the total scale gain score was statistically significant but not significant for learning style or group.
