The aim of the project was to initiate a sustainable, standardized human trafficking screening protocol at a Maternal Resource Center in order to improve human trafficking identification.
This 10-week quality improvement project provided the staff and volunteers at a Maternal Resource Center with the necessary tools …
Nurses' Attitudes Toward Physician-Assisted Suicide, Cheyenne Star Lowrey-Lagrone
Nurses' Attitudes Toward Physician-Assisted Suicide, Cheyenne Star Lowrey-Lagrone
The Eleanor Mann School of Nursing Undergraduate Honors Theses
Physician-assisted suicide, or PAS, is end-of-life option in which patients self-administer physician-prescribed lethal medication to end their life. Nurses' own interpretations and understandings of the legalities, ethical dilemmas, and factors that influence their attitudes can be analyzed to determine the nurses’ role in the support or opposition of the practice. Although nurses do not have an active role in PAS, they play a pivotal role in patient advocacy and education. This paper analyzes the factors that contribute to nurses’ attitudes toward the practice, along with the benefits of education of this topic going forth.

Abstract
Problem: One of the most important steps in infection prevention is the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect patients and staff from infectious agents; yet, research indicates that PPE compliance remains suboptimal in many healthcare institutions.
Purpose: To identify the effect of a multidisciplinary education campaign on PPE compliance and knowledge among healthcare workers (HCWs) on a rehabilitation unit of a large, midwestern teaching hospital.
Methods: This project utilized pre-intervention observational audits and a survey to determine baseline PPE compliance and knowledge on the piloted units. A post-intervention survey was sent to HCW to assess for a …
Rejection Sensitivity And The Intent To Seek Medical Help Among Gender Minority Individuals, Kellyann Garthe
Rejection Sensitivity And The Intent To Seek Medical Help Among Gender Minority Individuals, Kellyann Garthe
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Background: As members of a marginalized and socially devalued group, gender minority (GM) individuals regularly experience rejection in healthcare experiences. These rejecting experiences lead to barriers to healthcare access and health disparities. Consequently, GM individuals’ may develop anxious and avoidant attitudes toward their healthcare needs. When considering healthcare, an individual’s inherent attitude informs their intent to seek medical help (ISMH), defined as the attitude that influences one’s decision to seek medical help. When an individual has a hyper-sensitive reaction to perceived rejection, this is termed rejection sensitivity (RS).
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to determine if the independent …

Increased Knowledge Of Autism Spectrum Disorders Reduces Stress Levels In Staff Caring Directly For Patients With Autism Spectrum Disorder., Katelyn E. Triplett
Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Project
Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) is a group of disorders that affects approximately 1 in 59 children (Autism Spectrum Disorder, 2019). This group of disorders can cause deficits in communication, social relationships, and those with the diagnosis may exhibit undesirable behaviors as well as restrictive and repetitive behaviors (RRBs). There is limited education given to healthcare providers on this group of disorders, making it difficult to care for these patients. This study was conducted to determine if the stress level of staff that directly care for patients with ASD, at a pediatric behavioral health hospital, decreased following an educational presentation over …

Report: Creating And Piloting A Survey To Determine Readiness In Rural Populations In Ohio, Annie Bowen, Kay Ball
Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects
In 2015, the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid expansion allowed over 700,000 Ohioans to gain access to healthcare insurance, but having health insurance did not improve access to healthcare providers. In rural populations in Ohio, there are several counties in which less than five healthcare providers are available for the entire county with little or no specialists available for patients. People in rural areas of Ohio may have significant travel time and distance to see a provider which decreases preventative health visits. Telehealth is the next big wave of technology and advancement for healthcare, but most rural populations in Ohio …

Influence Of Work Values On Rural-Practice Intentions Among American Students Attending A Rural University, Nicholas Best
Murray State Theses and Dissertations
Rural areas in the United States frequently face difficulties regarding the prevalence of healthcare-related professionals. To better address this issue, it is important to understand how various demographic factors as well as individual work values influence the workplace setting decisions of future "helping" professionals. Previous research has studied the impact of various work values and how they relate to working with underserved populations (Aviram & Katan, 1991; Krous & Nauta, 2005). The current study aimed to compare various demographic factors and work value's ability to predict intentions to work in rural areas among students attending Murray State University (N …
