In an effort to identify a population possibly responsible for the underutilization of hospice care and services in northeast Mississippi, the student researcher compared the average perceptions among healthcare professionals and the general public. Having anticipated there was a significant difference between the averages of the two populations, the student researcher tested a null hypothesis that there was no statistically significant difference between the average perceptions of hospice care among healthcare professionals and the general public in northeast Mississippi. Cognitive impairment is one of the predominant diagnoses that in its early stages remain undetected in the primary healthcare setting. With Alzheimer's and dementia on the rise, it is paramount that cognitive impairment be detected promptly so preventative measures may be initiated to slow or avert progression of this dreaded disease. The annual wellness visit, a Medicare benefit added by the Affordable Care Act of 2010, recommends primary care providers conduct a screening to detect cognitive impairment during the course of this assessment. Obesity rates are rapidly increasing in Mississippi and the entire United States. It is estimated that 34.9% of Mississippi residents and 75 million Americans over the age of 20 are considered obese. Regular exercise is one of the best types of health promotion and prevention. Researchers have established that exercise decreases the risk for heart disease, hypertension, strokes, cancer, and osteoporosis. The purpose of this descriptive study was to determine the exercise prescriptive practices and perspectives of adult, family, and gerontological nurse practitioners in Mississippi compared to an international Internet study. Orem's Self-Care Deficit Theory was the theoretical framework for this study. Risk behaviors for transmission of the human immunodeficiency virus are prevalent among adolescents. One outcome of continued participation in risk behaviors is increased prevalence of HIV. Based on Fishbein and Ajzen's Theory of Reasoned Action (1975), a descriptive design was utilized to examine, the following research question: What are the HIV transmission risk behaviors of HIV-positive adolescents? Clients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) often experience an associated anemia which has been attributed to an endocrine deficiency of erythropoietin. The purpose of this descriptive, retrospective study was to describe the characteristics of the effectiveness of erythropoietin (EPO) therapy on the anemia associated with ESRD. The research question generated was how effective is EPO therapy in the treatment of the anemia in clients with ESRD in Mississippi?
