Incivility is also known as uncivil behavior, horizontal violence, or bullying. These terms are often used to describe the conduct an individual may display toward another that are deemed undesirable in healthcare organizations. Uncivil behavior has been an increasing topic in healthcare and has consequently gained the attention of organizations such as the American Nurses Association and regulatory agencies such as The Joint Commission. Incivility has the opportunity to affect teamwork, individual well-being, and patient safety.
