This project aims to increase the confidence of nurses using birthing positions to aid with mobility to assist with fetal descent and decrease the duration of labor in the first and second stages of labor. Lack of mobility and increased duration of labor are associated with the use of cesarean sections, which is an invasive surgery with potential complications. A knowledge gap in a South Bay Area hospital exists in current evidence-based birthing positions. Recent evidence shows that flexible sacrum positions, which are any upright positions that take the weight off the sacrum, promote vaginal deliveries, and improve birthing outcomes. …

The purpose of this project is to enhance the clinical nurse leader (CNL) nursing students’ learning experiences through simulation education, ensure that their learning outcomes meet course objectives, and increase students’ recognition of educational best practices in simulation.

This summer semester, the number of students in the obstetric course doubled and the course was changed from four scenarios held over two simulation days for four pre-licensure students each class to five simulation days with eight to ten students in attendance each class period. Epidural analgesia (EA) is one inpatient pain management option prescribed by Acute Pain Services (APS) at VA Puget Sound Health Care Services (VAPSHCS). Historically, EA nursing care at VAPSHCS has been managed by surgical units. However, in the last two years, facility restructuring and budget constraints have led to reorganization and consolidation of units. Abstract

A clinical nurse leader (CNL) project was conducted, in a medical-surgical oncology unit in a community-based hospital, to evaluate and improve upon the decreasing number of chemotherapy certified nurses. A Likert survey of the nurses provided a self-assessment of competency in handling chemotherapy patients, and perceived barriers to achieving chemotherapy certification. The surveys revealed that nurses felt fearful of exposure to hazardous medications, that chemotherapy assignments were too stressful, and that there was minimal chemotherapy competency amongst leadership. An education program was implemented, covering proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling, practicing resilience to mitigate stress, …
