This article explores potential infection risks linked with trucker cruising along U.S. highways. Specifically, the article delineates the settings and social organization of trucker cruising, examines the structure of sex partnerships of truckers and cruisers, and delves into the unique database of one truckchaser who recorded 4,162 sex interactions with 2,499 different truckers during a 13-year period. Concurrent sexual partnerships of bisexual and particularly straight-identified truckers hold increased potential for amplifying infection risk as they enable pathogens to operate as bridges along disparate geographies, demographies, and epidemiologies.

As more men who openly identify as gay approach older age, it is important for health and aged care professionals to consider the appropriateness of talking with these men about their sexual identity. This paper reports findings from a pilot study that examined how sexual identity should be acknowledged in aged care practice. The paper draws on qualitative data from two focus groups; one with older gay men and one with social workers. Design: An electronic survey related to prescribing practices. Setting: The survey was open to all Australian NPs (n=250 at time of survey) and NP candidates. Trata-se de um estudo descritivoexploratório utilizando como fonte de dados a estatística anual de acidentes do trabalho da Previdên- cia Social. Trucking has been classified as one of the highest-risk occupations in the United States.

Occupational stress is even greater for long-haul truckers who are away from home, family, friends, and other support networks for several days or weeks at a time. Occupational stressors and the mental health of truckers was studied using data collected as part of a large multisite ethnoepidemiological study of trucker networks. The purposes are to report the development of a website for low-literate parents in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and the findings of heuristic evaluation and a usability testing of this website. Methods—To address low literacy of NICU parents, multimedia educational Website using visual aids (e.g., pictographs, photographs), voice-recorded text message in addition to a simplified text was developed. Diabetes patients who understand their disease and how to manage it can achieve a lower complication rate. The American Diabetes Association recommends that patients receive self-management education and that patients' skills and knowledge be reassessed annually. The Healthy People 2010 objectives include a goal of at least 60% of diabetes patients receiving diabetes education. However, to date overall, far fewer (20%–50%) obtain comprehensive diabetes education and skills development to effectively implement self-management techniques. Purpose: The purpose of this qualitative descriptive study was to explore the socio-cultural influences and social context associated with living with type 2 diabetes among rural, migrant Latino adults.

Methods: A qualitative descriptive study using grounded theory techniques was conducted. In-depth semi-structured interviews were completed with ten participants (6 female and 4 male) ranging in age from 46-65 years and duration of diabetes diagnosis ranging from 1.5- 40 years.

This article addresses a recent change in the health care delivery system: the concierge medical practice, where doctors provide an array of special services by limiting practice to a small number of patients willing to pay a membership fee. The purpose of this article is to document this trend and to situate it within the health care system. Although beneficial for patients who can afford it, concierge medicine leads to increasing health care inequalities and disparities in the United States. The implications for nurse practitioners include caring for a larger and sicker population of underserved patients.

Specifically, the study examined the extent to which manuscript reviews provided constructive guidance for authors to further develop their work for publication, and for editors to make informed and sound decisions on the disposition of manuscripts.

An Intervention To Prevent Symptoms Associated With Hepatitis C: A Pilot Study, Donna M. Zucker

The objectives of this study were to (a) pilot test instruments measuring fatigue and quality of life (QOL); (b) pilot test an exercise intervention; and (c) estimate the effect size of this intervention relative to completion of combination therapy, fatigue, QOL, and walking distance in 20 patients with chronic hepatitis C about to begin interferon alpha and ribavirin treatment. Alpha reliabilities for both the Schwartz Cancer Fatigue Scale and Hepatitis Quality of Life Questionnaire were moderately high.
