Social determinants of health in Tanzania include poverty, low educational standards, and pandemic diseases such as malaria and HIV/AIDS. Girls in Tanzania are at an increased disadvantage in educational and vocational opportunities relative to boys. They are also an identifiable 'at risk' population regarding access to health care and health education. To address vulnerability of girls, a 5 day retreat for 12 year old girls was held in July, 2014 in Ruaha Mbuyuni, a small village in Iringa region of Tanzania.
