Persons who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGTBQ) are at increased risk for poor health outcomes. LGBTQ patients have higher incidences of poor health outcomes due to fear of mistreatment, bias, and stigmas. More education and training for healthcare professionals are needed regarding LGBTQ patients' care to change this patient population's current trend. The project implemented an educational intervention consisting of a learning module and panel discussion. The sample included 63 undergraduate nursing students at a rural central Georgia university. Sexual assault is a growing concern in the United States. Appropriate care of its survivors is essential to controlling the short and long-term effects of this trauma. A sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) is a registered nurse that acquires additional training specializing in the comprehensive care of sexual assault survivors. Research indicates that there are not enough SANEs to provide coverage for the increasing number of sexual assaults, especially in rural areas. Immigrants and refugees represent an underserved population in need of quality, accessible, and culturally appropriate healthcare and education. Diabetes is a chronic condition frequently seen in this population. The author utilized the Wagner Chronic Care Model (CCM) as a theoretical framework for planning diabetes education delivery in this diverse population. Studies report significant health disparities in diabetes care and subsequent poor diabetes quality indicators in refugees and immigrants. Research has found that culturally sensitive diabetes education can improve diabetes outcomes in ethnically diverse populations. This study measured the effectiveness of an evidence-based educational intervention targeting STD prevention in Greek society members attending college and examined relationships between sexual health knowledge, attitudes toward safe sex behaviors, and sexual demographics. One hundred thirty-two Greek society members attending college participated. Instruments measured demographic characteristics, knowledge regarding sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and attitudes toward practicing safe sex behaviors at baseline and one week post-intervention. There was a significant increase in STD knowledge from baseline (M=13.03, SD=6.5) to one week (M=20.27, SD=4.9) t (131) = -13.53, p = .000. Fraternity members were more …

The incidence of chronic diseases in college students mirrors that of older adults. Yet despite the enactment of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), college student continue to have difficulty accessing medical care. Many have no insurance, limited transportation and inadequate finances during college to obtain medical care. While college health centers may improve access to care, smaller colleges often do not have the financial and personnel resources to provide student health services.
