The primary purposes of this study were to: 1) examine the accuracy for referral of two portable lipid analyzers (PLAs) in an old order Mennonite population through a comparison to a national standardized reference laboratory, 2) examine the relationship of total cholesterol values with other known cardiovascular risk factors, and 3) foster the continued participatory model of health care service in this community. Women of the poor community of Cien Fuegos, Dominican Republic often use folklore or self-treatment for symptoms of vaginitis. Based on assessment of women in Cien Fuegos, an education program was developed called Respect Yourself, Protect Yourself. The need to increase empowerment and self respect was clearly evident for the women of this community. The program focuses on issues of vaginal hygiene, vaginitis, sexually transmitted infections and women's rights and self-protection. To provide sustainable education, the module will be sent to Cien Fuegos and implemented by local health providers.

The purpose of this brief is to convey the immediate need to coordinate and integrate hepatitis C virus (HCV) screening and testing for HIV co-infected and HCV infected clients, into primary care. In 2000, 1.25 million persons were estimated to be chronically infected with hepatitis B virus (HBV), and 2.7 million are chronically infected with HCV. Furthermore, 55% to 85% of new HCV infections become chronic. Of the 1.0 million people chronically infected with HIV, 250,000 also have HBV, and ~50,000 also have HCV, the leading cause of hepatocellular carcinoma. Trata-se de um estudo retrospectivo descritivo, que teve por objetivo conhecer as características dos acidentes de trânsito por atropelamento no município de Maringá entre 2005 e 2008. Para o estudo foram consideradas as vítimas de acidentes de trânsito por atro-pelamentos ocorridos em Maringá, no período de 2005 a 2008, através dos dados do Registro Geral de Ocorrência – RGO do 5º Grupamento de Bombeiros (GB). Foram identificadas 1841 vítimas. Do total de víti-mas, foi estudado o número de ocorrências registradas (1486), distribu-ídos em 399 no ano de 2005, 376 em 2006, 361 em 2007 e 350 no ano de 2008. …
