The purpose of this Capstone Project study was to answer the question: Does self-care education improve knowledge and decrease 30 day readmission rates in a class of heart failure patients that are at high risk for exacerbation? The study used a randomized control design with a pre-test/post-test. A convenience sample of 50 African Americans diagnosed with heart failure were entered; control group (n=25) and experimental group (n=25). Both groups received the Heart failure Pre/Post Test developed by the researcher during the initial interview and four weeks post discharge. This capstone project examined nursing students' technology acceptance of podcasting as a tool for nursing skill acquisition. Technology acceptance was determined by measuring the students' perceived competence of the skill along with the perceived usefulness and ease of use of the provided podcasts. A convenience sample of 49 first semester nursing students from an associate degree and practical nursing program participated in the project. Perceived competence of the three nursing skills: obtaining vital signs, inserting a Foley catheter, and performing a sterile dressing change was examined and compared from pre-podcast availability to post-podcast availability. The purpose of this study was to examine the level of incivility among registered nurses in the hospital setting. A non-experimental descriptive quantitative design was used.The Nursing Incivility Scale (NIS) was sent to all registered nurses (653) employed at the hospital via email with a response rate of 24% (n=158). The NIS has source specific subscales included. The results indicated that nurses did have experiences with incivility at this facility with the sources being identified as General Hostile Climate, Nurse Gossip and Rumors, Physician Abusive Supervision and Patient and Visitor Displaced Frustration.

The purpose of this quasi-experimental capstone project was to evaluate the impact of high fidelity, student-directed, obstetrical simulation upon chain-of-command self-efficacy of baccalaureate nursing students. The convenience sample, composed of 48 junior nursing students, was randomly divided into four simulation groups, and then further randomly divided into active or observational status. Active participants planned interventions and participated in high fidelity obstetrical simulations related to patient safety and chain-of-command initiation. Active and observational students participated in a combined debriefing session. The work environment impacts nurses’ perception and loyalty to organizations based on satisfaction versus dissatisfaction, including quality patient care. The purpose of this study was to explore work environmental factors that affect nurse job satisfaction in a hospital setting. Marilyn Ray’s Theory of Bureaucratic Caring was the theoretical framework for this study. Osteoporosis is a metabolic disorder characterized by the loss of bone mass, increased bone fragility, and the increased risk of fractures. Bone loss is accelerated when the diet is deficient in vitamin D and calcium. The National Osteoporosis Foundation estimates that 57 million Americans are at risk for this disorder. The risk depends on the amount of bone mass achieved between ages 25-35 and how much bone loss occurs after that age. Bone loss increases after menopause. Lifestyle modifications needed include knowledge of vitamin D, calcium, and exercise recommendations.

This study assessed perceived stress among graduating nursing students and explored the relationship between perceived stress and scores on a comprehensive NCLEX-RN® predictor exam. The goal was to provide data for educators to examine the correlation between student stress levels and comprehensive NCLEX-RN® predictor exam scores. Findings indicated that nursing students had higher than average stress levels based on established averages reported for the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) three weeks prior to graduation. No relationship was found in regards to stress and ATI Comprehensive Predictor Scores administered two days after students completed the PSS questionnaire. Implications for nurse educators based …

This capstone project assessed whether a curriculum change for senior nursing students could have an impact on improving attitudes toward physician-nurse collaboration. A convenience sample of 60 senior level nursing students and eight residents were enrolled in the study. The nursing students and residents participated in a high-fidelity simulation scenario, and were given a pretest and posttest using the Jefferson Scale of Attitudes Toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration. There was strong evidence (t= -1.971, p=.05) that the attitudes of physician-nurse collaboration improved for nursing students through a simulation based scenario with residents.
