Leadership Rounding To Improve Patient Satisfaction In Pediatric Ambulatory Care, Tara J. Haskell Nov 2021

Leadership Rounding To Improve Patient Satisfaction In Pediatric Ambulatory Care, Tara J. Haskell

Student Scholarly Projects

Practice Problem: Low patient satisfaction has been linked to poor treatment compliance, patients leaving the practice, staff decreased job satisfaction, and high staff turnover (Haskard Zolnierek & DiMatteo, 2009; Prakash, 2010). Magnet reporting has identified wide discrepancies in ambulatory clinics, with some clinics reporting below benchmark patient satisfaction ratings.

PICOT: In pediatric ambulatory and primary care services, how will the implementation of leader-led customer service rounding, compared to current practice, increase family and/or patient satisfaction over 4 weeks?

Evidence: Key findings are that the rounding needs to be population-specific, intentional, and swiftly followed up when problems are identified. The body …

Use Of A Mindfulness-Based Resiliency Intervention To Reduce Nurse Intention To Quit The Organization, Sherie Ambrose Jul 2021

Use Of A Mindfulness-Based Resiliency Intervention To Reduce Nurse Intention To Quit The Organization, Sherie Ambrose

Student Scholarly Projects

Practice Problem: Nurse turnover is a rapidly growing problem that affects the healthcare industry worldwide. Nursing shortages created by increased turnover have a negative effect on patients and staff and create a financial strain on healthcare organizations.

PICOT: For registered nurses within a select pilot group, does implementation of a mindfulness-based resiliency (MBR) intervention, compared to no intervention, reduce nurse intent to quit over an eight-week period?

Evidence: The positive impact of resiliency on turnover was best described in eight articles and two doctoral papers. Studies using MBR interventions have been shown to improve the coping skills of …

Improving Emergency Department Throughput: Using A Pull Method Of Patient Flow, Jeffrey Collins Apr 2021

Improving Emergency Department Throughput: Using A Pull Method Of Patient Flow, Jeffrey Collins

Student Scholarly Projects

Practice Problem: Overcrowding in the emergency department (ED) has been shown to increase the length of hospital stay, adversely impact patient outcomes, and reduce patient satisfaction. Problems with overcrowding and throughput are often thought of as an ED-specific inefficiency; however, the issue is indicative of hospital-wide inefficiencies.

PICOT: The PICOT question that guided this project was “For ED patients admitted to the medical-surgical unit at an acute medical center, will the implementation of a pull model for patient flow, when compared to the current push model, reduce admission delay and length of stay (LOS) within six weeks of implementation?

Evidence: …

Mentoring Program For New Graduate Nurses, Kathryn Palermo Mar 2021

Mentoring Program For New Graduate Nurses, Kathryn Palermo

Student Scholarly Projects

Practice Problem: The high turnover rate among newly licensed nurses has a negative impact on organizational costs, healthcare spending and patient outcomes. The turnover rate among newly licensed nurses, within their first year of practice, at the designated facility was 50%.

PICOT: The PICOT question that guided this project was “In new graduate nurses, how does a formal mentorship program, compared to no formal mentorship, affect the intent to leave within six weeks?”

Evidence: The scientific evidence supported both one-on-one and group mentoring. Retention and/or turnover was shown to be a positive outcome of formal mentor programs.

Intervention: The …

Compliance With A Nurse-Driven Hypoglycemia Protocol: Time From Hypoglycemia Event To Euglycemia, Robin A. Chappell Mar 2021

Compliance With A Nurse-Driven Hypoglycemia Protocol: Time From Hypoglycemia Event To Euglycemia, Robin A. Chappell

Student Scholarly Projects

Practice Problem: Hypoglycemia is a known complication of diabetes mellitus and is considered one of the top three adverse drug events by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (2019) because it is common, clinically significant, measurable, and preventable.

PICOT: The PICOT question that guided this project was: In non-critical hospitalized adult patients on medical-surgical units with documented HGEs, how does active surveillance for strict adherence to a nurse-driven hypoglycemia protocol, compared to no surveillance, affect the time from hypoglycemia to euglycemia?

Evidence: Treatment of hypoglycemia is commonly inconsistent and prolonged; however, active surveillance and monitoring of a …

Implementation Of A Nurse Leader Rounding Program In The Emergency Department, John Swanhorst Mar 2021

Implementation Of A Nurse Leader Rounding Program In The Emergency Department, John Swanhorst

Student Scholarly Projects

Practice Problem: The identified practice problem was the low “Likelihood to Recommend” patient experience survey scores within the ED at the identified project setting.

PICOT: The PICOT question that guided this project was “In ED patients (P), how does the implementation of Nurse Leader Rounding (I) compared to the prior state of no Nurse Leader Rounding (C) affect the “Likelihood to Recommend” top box score (O) within eight weeks (T)?”

Evidence: In a review of 13 articles, the evidence consistently showed that Nurse Leader Rounding was a proven intervention for increasing patient engagement scores.

Intervention: Nurse Leader Rounding is defined …
