The Impact Of Shared Governance On Work Engagement And Job Satisfaction, Mikayla Adkins Dec 2023

The Impact Of Shared Governance On Work Engagement And Job Satisfaction, Mikayla Adkins

MSN Capstone Projects

In 2023, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing revealed that 100,000 nurses left the workforce during the COVID-19 pandemic and another 900,000 plan to leave by 2027 due to stress, burnout, and retirement. Identifying and implementing practical strategies to reduce voluntary turnover as a result of stress and burnout is a top priority for nursing leaders across the country. Work engagement and job satisfaction have well been documented in the literature as antidotes to occupational stress and burnout in the nursing profession (Schaufeli & Bakker, 2004; Pressley & Garside, 2022). Evidence suggests that implementing shared governance is a …

Dnp Final Report: Conquering Rn Turnover: Implementing Flexible Scheduling To Improve Job Satisfaction, Camille Y. Parsee

DNP Final Reports

Nurse turnover is a complex problem for the nursing profession, especially in the behavioral health setting, where turnover rates are higher than the overall RN national average. The consequences of high nurse turnover include increased health costs, low-quality patient care, and staffing constraints. The association between nurse turnover and job satisfaction is profound because of their reciprocal relationship; therefore, implementing an intervention to help mitigate nurse dissatisfaction is essential to overcoming nurse turnover. Flexible scheduling is an intervention that gives nurses independence with their schedule which improves work-life balance and promotes nurse retention (Wright, 2017). The following PICOT question was …

Implementing Modern Management In Nursing, Ashley E. Hall Mar 2021

Implementing Modern Management In Nursing, Ashley E. Hall

MSN Capstone Projects

Throughout the recent years, there has been occurrence of massive nursing shortages across the country. While there are many explanations as to why these shortages could be occurring, one very common explanation is that of poor leadership. As it now stands, the training for new leaders is a “trial by fire” style of orientation. New leaders either have a short training period consisting of minor introductions and gathering of various system access, or no training for their new position whatsoever. This style of orientation leads to poor outcomes for the leader as well as the team they are put in …

Unit Managers’ Authentic Leadership, Staff Nurses’ Work Attitudes And Behaviours, And Outcomes Of Care: A Structural Equation Model, Lisa M. Giallonardo

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Nursing leadership is fundamental in the development of positive work attitudes and behaviours among staff nurses, and the provision of high quality patient care. Although direct empirical links were well established, there was a lack of research testing the indirect effects of leadership on nurses and patients. As such, it was proposed that the concept of authentic leadership could help explain the complex psychological processes that mediated relationships between nurse managers’ leadership, staff nurses’ work attitudes and behaviours, and outcomes of care.

The purpose of the present study was to test a model of authentic leadership in a sample of …

This study aimed to identify the differences and similarities in the extrinsic and …

Official Mentor Program Benchmark Project, Gabriela O'Hara Apr 2020

Official Mentor Program Benchmark Project, Gabriela O'Hara

MSN Capstone Projects

Nursing shortage, turnover, and low job satisfaction are constant issues that often trouble healthcare organizations. These issues have led organizations to implement programs, such as externship, internship, and preceptor programs to strengthen new nurses’ professional practice and skills. However, these issues continue to be organizational challenges. Considering the need for new nurses to have a supportive foundation for their career and to further encourage workplace satisfaction and retention, the following PICOT question was developed: In a healthcare organization, how does an official mentor program, compared with not having a mentor program, influence nursing retention and nursing job satisfaction over 2 …

Comparing Generational Differences In Job Satisfaction And Retention (Anticipated Turnover) Among Nurses Working In Magnet Versus Non-Magnet Designated Hospitals, Laura E. Cima

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

Background and Purpose of the Study: Experts in the nursing profession predict a catastrophic nursing shortage by 2025. Nursing shortages have devastating effects on hospitals from a quality of care, patient and family satisfaction and financial perspectives. Given these issues, the most logical approach to this shortage is retention of nurses rather than recruitment. The Magnet designation is one mechanism to retain nursing staff.

Another phenomenon exists within the work environment that makes this shortage different from others. Currently, there are four generations of nurses working in the healthcare environment. Each of these generational cohorts has different values and …

Relationship Between Job Satisfaction And Nurse To Patient Ratio With Nurse Burnout, Kayla Teeter Jan 2014

Relationship Between Job Satisfaction And Nurse To Patient Ratio With Nurse Burnout, Kayla Teeter

Nursing Theses and Capstone Projects

There is evidence that the increase in patients per nurse ratio and job dissatisfaction are leading causes of nurse burnout in the United States; however, current research mostly focuses on the hospital setting which limits the generalization of the findings. Therefore, more research is needed beyond the hospital environment. The purpose of this MSN thesis was to examine the relationship between job satisfaction and nurse-patient ratio with nurse burnout among home health nurses. The hypothesis is that home health nurses who experience a higher nurse to patient ratio and greater job dissatisfaction will experience increased nurse burnout. A review of …

Base-Line Equivalence In Three Paired Groups Prior To The Implementation Of Primary Nursing, Julien Harris

Theses : Honours

Primary nursing, one of the methods advocated for assigning nurses to care for patients, has been the subject of much investigation. The value of the system remains unclear. A review of the literature indicated a lack of consensus with positive, equivocal, and negative findings. This study formed phase one of a collaborative Project which measures the effects of the implementation of primary nursing over a two year period. This portion of the Project studies the base-line data of three paired nursing units, to determine whether there was evidence of base-line equivalence of the study and control groups, as determined by …
