Aims- The goal of this study is to obtain a subjective point of view of the use, benefits, and shortcomings of the Via Christi breastfeeding Assessment Tool in a clinical setting.

Methods- This case study is based on a single yet detailed interview with a lactation consultant who has utilized the Via Christi Breastfeeding Tool in a clinical setting.

Findings- Advantages of the Via Christi Breastfeeding Assessment Tool include that the tool is practical and concrete, encompassing both a subjective dimension and the basic elements of breastfeeding. Shortcomings of the tool include its non-specificity in focus on the feeding technique …

This study grounded in narrative perspectives was conducted to uncover mothers' experience of having a baby in the Neonatal intensive Care Unit (NICU). The purpose of this study was to describe and interpret mothers NICU experiences, and to sensitize health care professionals about the importance of mothers' personal experience stories.

The NICU experience began with mothers' birth experience or the incident that led up to her infant requiring care in the NICU and her experience extended beyond the NICU with future concerns about the health and wellbeing of her baby.

The author reflects on direct to consumer advertising which is concerned with erectile dysfunction drugs. She suggests that many people have problems with open discussions of sexual health problems. She argues that urologic nurses should have discussions with pharmaceutical representatives about ways to responsibly educate the public about erectile dysfunction drugs in a manner that is not offensive.

Knowledge of The Joint Commission's National Patient Safety Goals and an effective provider cooperative practice involving communication and teamwork are essential for the delivery of safe and compliant patient care in the surgical setting. The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of an educational intervention for physicians and nurses designed to increase documentation of compliance with national patient safety standards. Background. African American women are more likely to have breast cancer diagnosed at a later stage than Caucasian women and with a five year death rate 1.5 times greater than Caucasian women. Mammography screening detects breast cancer in its early stages and can reduce mortality.

Objective. To examine factors influencing early detection of breast cancer for African American women.

Evaluation Of The Urinary Incontinence Scales© To Measure Change After Experiential Learning: A Pilot Study, Karen A. Karlowicz

Evaluation of the effectiveness of the Urinary Incontinence Scales© to measure change after student participation in a disability-incontinence experiential learning activity was the focus of this pilot study. A comparison between pretest and posttest scores showed a significant increase in Belief and Practice subscale scores after participation in the experience. However, positive correlations between the variables measured could not be established.

Catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) is a common and costly problem for hospitalized patients. Policymakers have taken notice of the importance of these infections, and changes to the prospective payment rules of Medicare, Medicaid, and many additional third-party payers have been implemented to hold hospitals accountable for the delivery of poor quality health care services. As key members of the health care team, nurses must be prepared to utilize evidence-based practices to prevent CAUTI in hospitalized patients.
