Nurses provide care to clients in complex situations. Nurses entering practice need greater confidence and skills to make sound clinical judgment decisions when caring for clients. A question arises: Do structured clinical judgment activities based on the Clinical Judgment Measurement Model (CJMM) improve students’ clinical judgment skills throughout a semester simulation and clinical rotation? A literature search of EBSCOhost, CINAHL, Next Generation: NCLEX News, and article reference lists were used. Peer-reviewed articles published from 2018-2023 were reviewed, resulting in 13 articles being selected. Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC), often referred to as skin-to-skin contact, is an intervention for preterm and low birth weight infants, involving the practice of the mother or caregiver holding the newborn against their bare chest (Cleveland Clinic, 2023). This is a cost-effective and natural way to enhance health outcomes such as temperature regulation, weight gain, respiratory function, pain mitigation, and facilitation of breastfeeding for the neonate (Jefferies et al., 2012).

BACKGROUND: RNs practicing in primary care (PC) increase access to health care and contribute to better patient outcomes and cost savings, yet undergraduate nursing education traditionally focuses on disease-oriented care. This article describes a curricular track for infusing PC prelicensure programs.

METHOD: PC content is threaded across four semesters with targeted assignments and clinical experiences. Providing clinical immersion experiences with practicing RNs as preceptors in community and PC settings is a key component of this initiative.

Pre-eclampsia can be a serious development for both mother and fetus during pregnancy. Increased mortality and morbidity rates have been shown in women diagnosed with pre-eclampsia. Higher education for registered nurses on a Women’s Urgent Care (WUC) center will help diagnose the mother more quickly and inevitably receive treatment sooner leading to better outcomes for the birth of her newborn. A large proportion of infants admitted to neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) have genetic conditions. NICU nurses play an important role in providing comprehensive care to these patients and their families. Previous research has demonstrated gaps exist in the genetics knowledge of nurses and that they lack comfort applying genetics information to clinical practice, but no research has been done assessing the knowledge of or comfort with genetics of NICU nurses specifically. NICU nurses (n=122) completed an online survey assessing their perceived knowledge of genetics, comfort with clinical scenarios involving genetics, and desired genetics education. This quality improvement project was completed to show that a formal lung transplant education course for nurses caring for lung transplant patients increased their knowledge. An eight-hour education course was developed by experts in the field of lung transplantation. A pretest was administered before the education course. A posttest was administered to determine if knowledge was improved. A three-month follow-up test was administered to determine knowledge retention. Based on the data analysis, nurse knowledge improved after formal education. Item analysis determined what areas of educational content need to be the focus of quarterly education. Although leadership theory is introduced in baccalaureate nursing curriculum, opportunities to practice and develop leadership skills are limited for undergraduate nursing students. This study explores the experience of advanced nursing students who provided mentoring and tutoring to beginning nursing students. The experiences they describe are interpreted in light of literature on leadership education in undergraduate nursing schools, as well as that of peer mentoring and peer teaching. Given the current health care climate, it is critical for nurse educators to provide learning opportunities for students to collaborate with leaders in the community to provide much-needed services to vulnerable populations. We developed, implemented, and evaluated a process for vision screenings and referrals to a local eye center for low-income, immigrant women over three years in an urban setting in the United States. Nursing students have described clinical experiences as being stressful, yet the application of classroom knowledge to the clinical health care setting is a requirement. The purpose of this mixed-method study is to compare students’ perceptions of the peer mentoring leadership experience (PMLE) and the student charge nurse experience (SCNE). The PMLE was piloted at a southeastern community college’s associate degree nursing (ADN) program. Aim: To evaluate if continuing the education of Congest Heart Failure patients post-discharge will decrease the amount of readmissions within 6 months of discharge.

Background: Causes for decreased readmission rates in Congestive Heart Failure patients have been evaluated in multiple studies. The evaluation of the current research showed having discharge education and post- discharge follow-ups decreased the rate of readmission within 6 months. There is a sufficient amount of evidence supporting the implementation of education upon discharge and follow-ups of Congestive Heart Failure patients.
