This pilot project was designed from a systems approach as defined within the field of marriage and family (MFT). Systems theory has been used successfully in examining and working with organizational relationships as exemplified in the work of Edwin H. Friedman. His contribution includes several books specifically developed for use in organizations; one that was tailored for religious groups; and another for managers (Friedman, 2007). While other MFT modalities have also been used effectively with organizations, the complexity of the influences operating within an organization most closely matches the systems approach. The risk for professional burnout has become commonly recognized and in the past several years has been a focus of research efforts. Nursing is one of the professions generating a high level of stress which results in burnout.

The purpose of this study was to test the effects of an intervention program for nurses who felt they were experiencing burnout. Nursing burnout was defined as a chronic condition of stress among nurses, which leads to a syndrome of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and lack of personal accomplishment. This experimental study tested the effect of a teaching program on success of a group of mothers desiring to breast feed their babies. It was hypothesized that mothers receiving specific instructions on the physiology of lactation and the proper sucking technique would have greater success than mothers not so instructed.

To be categorized as successful the mothers had to have an adequate supply of milk and had to express satisfaction with breast feeding. Criteria for adequacy of milk supply consisted of weight gain of the infant within accepted norms without use of supplementary formula.

Within the scope of the questionnaire designed for this study, it was proposed to determine the satisfactions and dissatisfactions of obstetrical patients at a selected hospital. The study was concerned with patients' perception of nursing care through labor and delivery. Thirty postpartal clinic patients were interviewed in the hospital, using the interview guide which was constructed by the nurse researcher. The purpose of this survey was twofold (1) to find out what knowledge the pediatric nurse has regarding selected medications which she is administering, and (2) to make recommendations relative to drug knowledge for in-service education programs in hospitals.

The data regarding abdication knowledge as collected by using a checklist form developed for this study and administered to seventeen graduate nurses in three selected hospitals each supervising a pediatric unit.

A checklist included categories, the route, the action time of a drug, and the side effects that could he commonly expected.

The purpose of this study was to identify factors that contributed to the turnover among nursing personnel of a selected hospital in a large metropolitan city. It was felt that such a study would assist in the reduction of turnover among the nursing personnel.

Other similar studies revealed that reasons for turnover among hospital nursing personnel were due to low salaries, hours of work, work loads, communications, improper placement, poor supervision, and a lack of promotional opportunities. It was the purpose of this survey to find out what post-basic preparation the administrative, supervisory and head nurses had received for their positions in six Seventh-day Adventist hospitals. The descriptive survey was chosen as the method of approach in the study. An information card was devised to gather the data. A total of 190 or 81 percent of the 235 anticipated responses were returned. For this study the normative survey approach was used as the method of research. This study was conducted to find out if Paradise Valley School of Nursing is meeting certain specified objectives and to gather information which could help in future curriculum planning to better meet the needs of the students.

The normative-survey was the method used to gather data from graduates of the 1950-1957 classes. This group comprised those graduating from the three-year diploma program. A questionnaire was mailed to 149 graduates of which 124 responded.

The purpose of thin study was to develop a plan for inservice education for the graduate nurse staff in a small maternity unit that would encourage optimum nursing care.

A questionnaire was prepared and given to those nurses who had been employed in the maternity unit during the sixteen month period prior to the date of mailing the questionnaire.
