RNs are a critically important component of the U.S. healthcare system. RN burnout – the feeling of exhaustion from working long hours without rest – is a real concern, having been reported in many hospitals. We examine the background, causes and consequences of burnout among RNs in U.S. hospitals, in order to identify solutions to this problem. Findings indicate that Burnout Syndrome in RNs can be analyzed in terms of four clusters of characteristics: individual, management, organizational, and work. The consequences of burnout include increased RN turnover rates, poor job performance, and threats to patient safety. RN burnout in hospitals …

PURPOSE: The purpose of this research was to examine the causes and consequences of Burnout Syndrome among RNs in U.S. hospitals to identify solutions to this problem.
METHODS: The methodology was the review of the literature and a semi-structured interview. There were seven primary databases and two websites used in this research, and 35 articles were used for this literature review.

On any given day, about one in 25 hospital patients in the United States has a health care–associated infection (HAI) that the patient contracts as a direct result of his or her treatment. Fortunately, the spread of most HAIs can be halted through proper disinfection of surfaces and equipment. Consequently, cleaners—“environmental services” (EVS) in hospital parlance—must take on the important task of defending hospital patients (as well as staff and the broader community) from the spread of HAIs. Burnout is a state of mental, physical and emotional stress resulting in a chronic state of pressure or stress at work and is associated with individuals who do “people work” (Aiken and Sloane, 1997), a category into which nurses obviously fall. The number of nurses suffering from burnout has increased over the years, possibly causing negative effects on patient care, working environments and staffing shortages. Hospitals should focus on creating a healthy work environment in which nurses feel supported by their coworkers and management. Hospitals should also make available stress management programs that address symptoms of burnout and assure safe …

Evolving more than thirty years ago, the Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs) covers a wide variety of applications that impact all health care segments throughout the United States. The DRGs are a patient classification scheme originally developed as a means of relating the type of patients a hospital treats (i.e., casemix) to the costs incurred by the hospitals.
The DRG terminology has experienced evolutionary growth through later generations: Major Comorbidities and Complications (MCC), Comorbidities and Complications (CC) and All Patient Refined Diagnosis Related Groups (APR DRG). A infecção é a mais frequente e grave complicação que acomete pacientes que procuram serviços estéticos e/ou funcionais em clínicas de cirurgia plástica. Uma infecção hospitalar eleva os custos do processo, tanto para o paciente quanto para a empresa. Diante disso, torna-se importante a instalação de uma comissão de controle de infecção hospitalar, tendo como responsável um enfermeiro. A importância deste profissional se dá por meio da organização da Central de Material Estarilizado (CME), bem como do estabelecimento de outras medidas efetivas para a prevenção e controle de infecções nas clínicas apresentadas ao longo desse artigo.
