Green Tea Supplementation: An Effective Lifestyle Modification For Cholesterol Management, Samuel J. Nemati
Green Tea Supplementation: An Effective Lifestyle Modification For Cholesterol Management, Samuel J. Nemati
MSN Capstone Projects
Hypercholesterolemia is an insidious disease and the leading factor to the deadliest killer in the United States – cardiovascular disease (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2023a). Over 85 million American adults suffer from elevated cholesterol, and treatment can prove challenging and may require multiple modalities outside just pharmaceutical intervention – such as dietary and other lifestyle changes (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2023b; Goldman, 2023). Green tea – among the most common teas consumed worldwide – exerts a uniquely antihyperlipidemic and cardioprotective effect that suggests its consideration as a potentially-viable nonpharmacological option for hypercholesterolemia (Harvard Health Publishing, 2012; …
Vaginal Preparation In Cesarean Delivery To Decrease Surgical Site Infections: A Benchmark Study, Angelica Ware
Vaginal Preparation In Cesarean Delivery To Decrease Surgical Site Infections: A Benchmark Study, Angelica Ware
MSN Capstone Projects
This benchmark project intends to decrease the rate of surgical site infections related to cesarean procedures with vaginal preparation through an evidence-based approach. Vaginal preparation is a simple technique that cleanses the vaginal walls by removing microorganisms. The goal of the benchmark project is to promote the implementation of a vaginal preparation policy across any healthcare facility that performs cesarean procedures. Vaginal preparation is intended for scheduled cases, add-on cases, and urgent cases. The benchmark study does not include emergent cesarean deliveries, as vaginal preparation is at the discretion of the physician in those cases.
The topic of surgical site …
Modifiable Health Disparities And Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factors In Latino Migrant Seasonal Farmworkers: A Meta-Analysis, Cindy Mendez
Modifiable Health Disparities And Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factors In Latino Migrant Seasonal Farmworkers: A Meta-Analysis, Cindy Mendez
Nursing Theses and Dissertations
BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States (U.S.). Existing literature concluded that Latino migrant seasonal farmworkers endure higher rates of adverse health disparities and chronic diseases than the general U.S. population. However, research on the Latino migrant seasonal farmworkers’ modifiable health disparities (i.e., alcohol use and smoking) and cardiovascular disease risk factors (i.e., high cholesterol, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and overweight/obesity) is scarce, particularly studies comparing male and female Latino migrant seasonal farmworkers. PURPOSE: This meta-analysis had two aims. First, examine whether male or female Latino migrant seasonal farmworkers in the U.S. have …
The Use Of Mobility And Medication On Patient’S Perception Of Pain In Hospitalized Patients With Chronic Back Pain Benchmark Study, Katherine E. Zaske Merenda Mrs., Katherine Merenda
The Use Of Mobility And Medication On Patient’S Perception Of Pain In Hospitalized Patients With Chronic Back Pain Benchmark Study, Katherine E. Zaske Merenda Mrs., Katherine Merenda
MSN Capstone Projects
According to Boss & Huether, twenty-nine percent of Americans have been diagnosed with chronic low back pain (CLBP). This pain can affect every part of their lives leading to lost wages and decreased quality of life. CLBP is an issue experienced by many hospitalized patients. These patients may not be able to mitigate their pain as they normally would due to safety protocols in hospital settings. Exercise or mobility has been shown to decrease a person’s perception of pain. The importance of exercise and mobility in a hospital setting to help decrease a patient’s perception of pain needs further research. …
A Whole-Food Plant Based Diet And Its Effects On Cardiovascular Disease, Meredith A. Childress
A Whole-Food Plant Based Diet And Its Effects On Cardiovascular Disease, Meredith A. Childress
MSN Capstone Projects
The purpose of this paper and benchmark study is to present evidenced-based data regarding the impact diet choices have on heart disease and how adherence to a whole food plant based (WFPB) diet compared to a Western diet affects cardiac disease. The PICOT question being asked for this change project is as follows: In adults with history of cardiac disease (P), how does adherence to a whole-food plant-based (WFPB) diet (I) compared to the Western diet (C) impact outcomes associated with coronary artery disease (CAD) (O) over three months (T)? A search of evidenced-based literature was conducted to determine the …
Dnp Final Report: Breaking The Cycle: Care Coordination Interventions And Sickle Cell Readmissions, Naphtali Edge
Dnp Final Report: Breaking The Cycle: Care Coordination Interventions And Sickle Cell Readmissions, Naphtali Edge
DNP Final Reports
Background
Approximately 100,000 people in the United States are affected by Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). Sickle Cell Disease represents the second highest readmitting diagnosis at Houston Methodist Hospital. The purpose of this study is to determine the impact of implementing care coordination interventions to reduce hospital readmissions of patients with SCD.
PICOT
In adult patients with SCD in the acute care hospital setting, how does care coordination intervention compared to no care coordination intervention affect the readmission rate for patients with SCD over a 3 – 6-month period?
Body of Evidence
Eleven studies were critical appraised and included in the …
Decreasing Bias And Improving Education On Non-Invasive Colorectal Screening Methods, Sara H. Hughes
Decreasing Bias And Improving Education On Non-Invasive Colorectal Screening Methods, Sara H. Hughes
MSN Capstone Projects
It is estimated that in 2020, nearly 148,000 Americans will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer and 53,200 Americans will die from colorectal cancer (Siegel et al., 2020). One- half of all cases and deaths are due to modifiable risk factors such as diet and smoking and it has been shown that early screening and detection can greatly decrease the morbidity and mortality of colorectal cancer yet colorectal cancer related deaths still ranks among the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in the United States and the world. Early detection of colorectal cancer is crucial to reducing mortality and although this is …
Continuous Glucose Monitors To Decrease Hypoglycemia, Sara B. Woodcock
Continuous Glucose Monitors To Decrease Hypoglycemia, Sara B. Woodcock
MSN Capstone Projects
Diabetes is a disease that affects millions of people from children to older adults. There is no cure, although it can be managed to prevent complications. Education of student nurses is where they are born and raised to become nurses who save and change lives. Teaching student nurses in depth about diabetes as a disease and the treatments that best fit their specific needs is where educating patients begins. Learning about a secondary option for blood glucose checks can make all the difference for several patients. Multiple finger sticks daily has been the leading way to check blood sugar for …
Community Cooking Course To Combat Nutritional Knowledge Deficit, Heather R. Bohman
Community Cooking Course To Combat Nutritional Knowledge Deficit, Heather R. Bohman
MSN Capstone Projects
More than two-thirds of American adults and almost one-third of American children are overweight or obese. Not only are the statistics alarming, the cost of obesity is staggering. Obesity robs an individual of their quality of life and costs the U.S. healthcare system an estimated $147 billion a year in obesity-related illness (Finkelstein, Trogdon, Cohen, & Dietz, 2009). The need to find solutions to improve the health of Americans is clear and communities are called to respond. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2018) recommends partnership with local agencies to promote obesity prevention initiatives and create a healthier …
Effect Of Activity Trackers And Text Messaging On Exercise, Fitness, And Physical Activity Self-Efficacy Of Middle School Students, Alison F. Pittman
Effect Of Activity Trackers And Text Messaging On Exercise, Fitness, And Physical Activity Self-Efficacy Of Middle School Students, Alison F. Pittman
Nursing Theses and Dissertations
A decrease in physical activity as children age is a contributing factor to the U.S. obesity epidemic. Middle school children are particularly vulnerable to sedentary activities. Activity trackers show promise as a means to motivate children and adults to increase physical activity (PA). This study examined the effect of a text messaging intervention and use of activity trackers with a companion social website on the body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage, physical fitness, and PA self-efficacy of middle school children. Children aged 11-14 (n=102) were randomly assigned to one of three groups for a 10-week intervention: activity tracker group; …

Effects Of A Scripted Online Video On School Nurse Perceptions Of Concussion Management, Kathleen Holligan Schneider
Nursing Theses and Dissertations
Media attention surrounding the increased rates and serious consequences of concussions among American youths has instigated the passage of laws in all fifty states requiring improved management of concussions and the development of programs, such as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Heads Up to Concussion. Progress has been reported in the efficacy of concussion diagnosis and return-to-play decisions. However, there has been less progress in managing the protocols for cognitive rest and return-to-classroom. The purpose of this study was to identify significant stakeholders and factors that could improve management of cognitive rest and return-to-classroom protocols in high …
