Sepsis is a deadly condition if not treated promptly and urgently. To help lower the mortality rate from Sepsis, education on Sepsis is essential for nurses at all levels and experience. Opportunity at a healthcare organization in Northern California arose when it was found through a survey that about 6 percent of Medical-Surgical nurses have "expert knowledge" of the sepsis bundle elements. Only about 35 percent of these nurses who reported having "expert knowledge" are confident in treating sepsis patients. Despite an increase in the promotion of early progressive mobility, its decrease in hospital-acquired complications and improvement of patient outcomes, there remains a reluctance in staff commitment to daily evaluation and implementation. This is largely due to the fact nurses or other interprofessional staff are the primary individuals responsible for this change in process. A lack of confidence in staff to correctly identify patients that meet criteria and anxiety regarding the safe transfer or mobilization of patients, particularly in high acuity settings have been identified as major barriers. Intensive care unit (ICU) delirium is a prevalent condition that can occur in up to 80% of critical care patients. It can increase hospital length of stay, morbidity rates, and recovery time. It can also demand higher costs for care and long-term effects on the patient. A good practice statement, issued by the Society of Critical Care Medicine, acknowledges the importance of delirium awareness (Devlin, 2018). Millions of individuals visit the emergency department (ED) each year with complaints of chest pain. Many chest pain patients do not have an underlying condition of Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) but the health and well-being of these patients is indispensable. Research has indicated soaring costs, an increased demand in medical resources, and an increasingly poor quality of life for these patients after discharge. Purpose: The purpose of this evidence-based education project was (i) to evaluate baseline nursing knowledge of anemia, blood conservation and transfusion medicine, (ii) to identify current blood conservation practice and the nurse’s prior exposure to blood conservation education (iii) to determine the potential impact of evidence-based education on nursing knowledge, and (iv) to determine the impact of education on the nurse’s attitudes towards future implementation of blood conservation practices based on the nurse’s self report.

Setting: The project was implemented in the Cardiovascular and Thoracic ICU (CVICU) at an 875-bed level-1 Trauma and Multi-Organ Transplant Center located in central Kentucky. …
