Block Charting For Hemodynamic Unstable Patients, Tasha Walker

Student Scholarly Projects

Practice Problem: The intensive care unit poses many challenges for nurses. Nurses are placed in a position to decide on dosing and administration, which could conflict with their scope of practice, and documentation needs to coincide with orders. The accuracy of nursing documentation plays a vital role in measuring the outcomes, and failure to document accurately could result in noncompliance with scope of practice or a medication error.

PICOT: For intensive care nurses (P), how does block charting of vasoactive medications (I) compared to current documentation practices (C) affect the accuracy of nurses' documentation (O) within 4 weeks?

Evidence: Nursing …

The Impact Of Psychological Interventions Given To Icu Patients To Help With Pain Management, Kelly Liu

Nursing | Senior Theses

Pain management among the critically ill population is a significant issue in the intensive care setting. Whether the pain is acute or chronic, nurses tend to be the first-hand responders to help with pain management in the intensive care unit (ICU). With barriers ranging from patients’ inability to verbalize pain to nurses’ experience with obstacles to assessment such as sedation, confusion, or other concerns, pain management is a serious issue. Although pharmacological interventions such as opioids and analgesics help with pain control, in this thesis, we will focus on the impact of nonpharmacological and psychological nursing interventions and how it …

Families experience increased anxiety and stress due to ineffective communication with staff and restricted access to their hospitalized loved ones. A needs assessment revealed a gap in care …

Qt Monitoring In The Icu: A Benchmark Project, Jeffrey S. Woodward Apr 2020

Qt Monitoring In The Icu: A Benchmark Project, Jeffrey S. Woodward

MSN Capstone Projects

In adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients, does QT/QTc monitoring compared to no QT/QTc monitoring affect mortality or ventricular tachyarrhythmia rates during their ICU stay? Not monitoring changes in the QT interval can lead to poor outcomes since mortality rates are higher in patients with arrhythmias (Uvelin, Pejakovic, & Mijatovic, 2017). Approximately 300,000 sudden cardiac deaths occur in the United States each year with an estimated 15,000 because of a lethal ventricular tachyarrhythmia rhythm called Torsades de Pointes (TdP) that occurs when a QT interval is prolonged (Dave, Bessette, & Setnik, 2017). Some risk factors for developing prolonged QT intervals …

Assessment Of Intensive Care Family Satisfaction, Jami Burnette Jan 2020

Assessment Of Intensive Care Family Satisfaction, Jami Burnette

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

There continues to be an unknown factor in knowing true patient and family satisfaction within the intensive care unit (ICU) setting. Current literature reveals surveys used to measure patient satisfaction do not pertain to the ICU setting. Patients often do not remember the ICU stay due to critical illness and are unable to actively participate with care. Families act as surrogates, are included in patient care, and collaborate with nursing and medical teams to help make care decisions. Families are integral in the patient care process and are vital members of the health care team. Even though families are included …
