According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, poor mental health and suicide rates amongst people ages 18-25 years old continues to increase. Given these statistics, it is reasonable to assume that mental health education needs to be implemented during regular school hours. It is imperative that students understand the warning signs of poor mental health prior to entering higher education or entering the workforce. By creating an Online Mental Health Resource Archive (OMHRA) filled with resources (i.e. infographics, podcasts, TED Talks, etc.), participants have a central location to browse resources and educate themselves about mental health. Ohio Northern University Students Connect With Kenton Hardin Health Department For Project Dawn (Deaths Avoided With Naloxone) Training, Kelly Kern

Background:

In partnership with the Kenton Hardin Health Department, Project DAWN training was offered to Ohio Northern University students. Project DAWN is a public health program offered within Ohio. The goal of the program is to provide education and training related to opioid overdoses and to distribute naloxone kits.

Methods:

Two sessions of Project DAWN training provided by the county Health Department was completed by 77 Ohio Northern University students. At the sessions students filled out a survey on student demographics (college, class, major), and reasons for attending.

Development And Management Of Depression During And After Pregnancy, Alexa Bouts, Maria Patnella, Jourdan Ujlaki, Emily Wells, Hannah Lamb, Michelle Musser

Pharmacy and Wellness Review

Depression during pregnancy is common, whether it is a new onset of the disease or emerging symptoms of the already existent disease. Due to patient and prescriber concerns with antidepressant use during pregnancy, approximately three-quarters of those diagnosed with depression remain untreated. Furthermore, up to half of pregnant women with depression remain undiagnosed due to lack of recognition. As a result, both mother and fetus are at risk for negative health outcomes including substance abuse, functional impairment, increased risk of postnatal depression and poor pregnancy outcomes. Benefits must be balanced against the risks when considering pharmacologic treatment options to manage …
