This research is a study of the articulation «no infection» contained in the Hadith, as it deals with the following: the verbal context, and especially the character of negation (no) which can hold the meaning of exclusion or prohibition, and exclusion is likely to banish existence and potentially deny the effect of the disease itself without God’s will. In addition, what may appear in the Hadith as a conflict or allocation. Did our Prophet- peace be upon him- want to correct pre-Islamic concepts that prevailed at the time of his mission, or is it an order to not infect others? …

Comfort Care, Saptarshi Biswas
Comfort Care, Saptarshi Biswas
HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
Death does not thrill me anymore. I am a trauma surgeon extraordinaire! The patient had suffered a traumatic brain injury and has struggled for weeks. He is only 16. Today, the family decided to make him “comfort care." I was at the end of my call, exhausted, drained of all energy. I looked out of the ICU window and saw the fading rain and the city lights. It somehow reminded me of a precious life ebbing away, and I burst into a silent scream. I am still human.

Optometric Clinical Practice
Background: Optometric services in many parts of the world are unavailable, or when available, limited to those individuals who have the resources and proximity to gain access to them. Recognizing this disparity in availability of eyecare services, teams from developed countries have been volunteering to provide eyecare in these areas with such a need for many years. Over time, these groups have also adopted a mission of enhancing the local infrastructure to create long-term improvement. Method: All records from a VOSH clinical trip to Panama were retrospectively analyzed to determine the prevalence of ocular conditions diagnosed. Results: As expected, the …

A Conceptual Model Of Organizational Compassion In Healthcare, Rachel Thienprayoon, Eli Awtrey, Teresa Pestian, Beth A. Lown, Naomi Winick, Jason Kanov
Journal of Wellness
Introduction: In healthcare, while the suffering of patients is often evident, the suffering of clinicians receives less focus. Some sources of clinician distress are directly related to constant exposure to patient suffering, but others are caused by the health care system, and thus potentially preventable. Looking at clinician suffering through the lens of compassion fosters a new paradigm of individual, team, and organizational capabilities, and moves the responsibility to alleviate this suffering from the individual onto the organization and team. Yet research into the impact of organizational compassion in healthcare has been extremely limited.
Approach: Our conceptual model of organizational …

Accuracy Of Ultrasonography In Diagnosis Of Acute Appendicitis At King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Thitinan Chulroek
Chulalongkorn Medical Journal
Background: Acute appendicitis is one of the most common emergency abdominal surgical condition with a yearly incidence rate of approximately 140 per 100,000 persons in Thailand between 2014 to 2017. The diagnosis of appendicitis is mainly relied on clinical manifestations, but these diagnostic approaches are not always accurate. Imaging tests such as graded compression ultrasonography (US) and computed tomography (CT) have become more commonly used to improve the diagnostic performance.
Objective: To evaluate the sensitivity, specificity and predictive values of US in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital (KCMH).
Methods: We retrospectively gathered data from the …

Journal of the Arab American University مجلة الجامعة العربية الامريكية للبحوث
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic had a strong impact on the physical and mental well-being of healthcare workers. However, the focus has been directed towards nurses and physicians compared to pharmacists. Here, the researchers investigated the prevalence of burnout among community pharmacists in the West Bank – Palestine during the pandemic and the associated COVID-19 factors. The study was conducted using a written questionnaire and the sample included a total of 70 pharmacists. The results showed a burnout prevalence of 45.7% with work-related burnout having the highest impact on both males (50%) and females (54.8%). The level of burnout …

Effect Of Maternal Adverse Childhood Experiences (Aces) And Maternal Resiliency On Early Childhood Outcomes On Vaccination Adherence And Emergency Department Visits, Leslie Abraham Md, Hsiao-Wei Banks Ba, John P. Gaughan Ms, Phd, Alla Kushnir Md
Cooper Rowan Medical Journal
Introduction: Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are traumatic events that occurred to an individual during ages 0-17 years. The 1998 Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) suggested higher ACE scores contributed to negative future health outcomes. The tool is now used to screen at-risk populations for the development of chronic health conditions. Protective factors, such as resilience, were later studied and found to offset the negative health impacts of traumatic childhood events. The 7Cs questionnaire was a tool developed to measure resilience in adolescents and demonstrated better health outcomes despite the presence of higher ACE scores. This pilot study evaluated whether higher …

Introduction: There is generally a concerning likelihood of burnout in healthcare workers. Given the impact of COVID-19 on healthcare workers, our institution identified the need for wellness interventions to foster adaptive functioning and mitigate burnout. The purpose of this pilot project was to assess the feasibility of virtual holistic interventions like meditation, art, laughter therapy and dance and their impact on overall well-being of physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs).
Methods: A series of 12 virtual sessions (art therapy, dance therapy, mindfulness-based practices/meditation and laughter therapy) were offered to providers over a 6-month period. Participants completed an online survey reporting …
