Accordingly, with the reduction of nurse burnout, there has also been a reduction of compassion fatigue. This project has illuminated the benefits of acuity-based caseload at the micro-level, including the cost-effective nature of overtime pay, including HCHAPS benefit score. The research purpose was to assess the impact of the ACA’s Medicaid expansion and insurance subsidies on reducing racial/ethnic disparities in coverage, access and the delivery of primary care services, specifically diabetes prevention. The psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) may be an adjunct in providing those services. The purpose of this quality assurance study was to evaluate outcomes of care between a PMHNP and a psychiatrist (medical doctor [MD]).

Methods: An observational, descriptive design with a retrospective medical record review of adult patients over a six-month period in a suburban, Midwestern, privately owned psychiatric practice.

In an effort to increase distribution rate and response rate of the patient satisfaction survey at this ASC, adjustments were made to current processes. These interventions included accentuating the option of a paper or emailed survey, providing pre-operative and post-operative response prompts, as well as adding a cover letter to the existing survey. The purpose of these interventions was to ensure a 100% distribution rate of the survey as well as to increase the response rate by 20%.

Goal: Standardize all aspects of discharge in a large, busy 84-bed Level IV NICU with >1000 admissions/year and >300 nurses, >60 NNPs, and >25 neonatologists.

With that in mind, a team of cardiac nurses in a large academic tertiary hospital developed a quality improvement project to hopefully improve patient engagement as well the patients’ perception that the nurses explained things in a manner that they could understand.

Baseline patient survey scores for the question, “Nurses Explained Things In A Way That I Understand”, were under the 75^thpercentile for a period of 9 months. A root cause analysis was conducted and it demonstrated numerous reasons for this score.

At a large academic tertiary medical center, an Integrated Medication Assisted Treatment (IMAT) program has been established for those medically stable inpatients with an addiction diagnosis. Over a four month period, this program had experienced a decline in attendance and a quality improvement project was initiated is to better understand the barriers to attendance and institute a process that would reverse the decline.

An outpatient urgent care unit was experiencing challenges in balancing the need to register patients and delivering care in the timeliest manner as possible. Upon examination, it was found that delays were being experienced in patient triage and discharge that resulted in low patient satisfaction scores.

The trauma service in a large academic tertiary medical center admits a large proportion of patients with the secondary diagnosis of alcohol use disorder. Given the successful use of phenobarbital in the critical care unit for withdrawal prophylaxis and treatment of acute withdrawal, a quality improvement project was established to create and implement guidelines for the non ICU patient.

Discharging patients early in the day has many advantages amongst which is increased bed availability. However, the experience in a large academic tertiary medical center demonstrated that most discharges occurred early to mid afternoon. Background: The prevalence of type 2 diabetes (T2D) in Mexico is one of the highest in the world, with high morbidity and mortality, and difficulty meeting glycemic targets. The purpose of this study was to identify the challenges for T2D self-management as perceived by both adults with T2D and health care providers in primary health clinics from Seguro Popular in Mexico City.

Methods: This was a qualitative descriptive study conducted in three Seguro Popular primary care clinics in Mexico City using convenience sampling. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with participants and data were analyzed using a content analysis approach.

Canadian healthcare system is under immense economic pressure. In an attempt to resolve the problem, outpatient surgical services were offered to patients presenting with orthopaedic surgical complaints. An observational cohort study was carried out, comparing the conventional surgical setup to the newly designed high-efficiency setup that provided similar care, with a significantly lower operating cost. A total of 200 patients were enrolled in the study. Standardized and unstandardized questionnaires were used to evaluate pre-operative and post-operative patient data that reflected quality of life outcomes. Admission and retention of qualified nursing students are essential in meeting the demands of a rapidly changing health care environment and nursing shortage. The purpose of this exploratory correlational study was to determine the relationship between student performance in quantitative pre-requisite coursework and student performance in upper division nursing coursework in order to identify students at-risk for attrition. A series of descriptive and correlational analyses were conducted using pre-existing institutional data. A large free standing children’s academic hospital aimed to improve patient safety and outcomes by decreasing the overall severity of peripheral intravenous infiltration and extravasations (PIVIEs). A care bundle was developed by creating a PIVIE measurement tool within the electronic medical record (EMR) and integrating the tool into standardized daily practice for nurses. The care bundle included creating a team of clinical leaders consisting of empowered bedside nurses acting as mobilized resources embedded into each unit.
