People living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH) have an increased life expectancy due to advances in antiretroviral therapy. In 1996, the life expectancy for a 20-year old living with HIV was 39-years old; today, it is >70-years old. As life expectancy increases, PLWH are burdened with age-associated comorbidities. This paper reviews the interaction between aging and HIV and how it affects social, physical, and oral health issues. The shift in demographics presents new challenges for clinicians in how to identify, address, and manage these complex manifestations. This review summarizes how to approach HIV-related changes when providing care as a dental clinician.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different PEEK veneering materials, as well as thermocycling on the color difference (ΔE) and the translucency parameter (TP) of modified PEEK veneered restorations.

Materials and Methods: Thirty disc shaped specimens of veneered BioHPP (1.5 mm X 12 mm) were randomly divided into three groups (n=10) based on the type of the veneering material. Group (A): Discs veneered with CAD milled Lithium Disilicate, group (B): Discs veneered with pre-cured milled composite, and group (C): Discs veneered with conventional light cured composite. CIELab values were calculated for all specimens over …

Effect Of Water Storage On Repair Bond Strength Of Resin-Based Composite To Different Restorative Materials, Dina A. Omar, Huda Abed El-Haliem, Noha El-Wassefy, Salah H. Mahmoud Jan 2023

Effect Of Water Storage On Repair Bond Strength Of Resin-Based Composite To Different Restorative Materials, Dina A. Omar, Huda Abed El-Haliem, Noha El-Wassefy, Salah H. Mahmoud

Mansoura Journal of Dentistry

Objective: To investigate the effect of water storage on repair bond strength (RBS) of resin composite to five restorative materials using either a silane and a bonding agent or a universal bond. Materials and Methods: Five materials which are amalgam, direct composite, indirect composite, hybrid ceramic, and feldspathic ceramic were used in this study. Twenty- eight cube-shaped specimens from each material were fabricated, all specimens were sandblasted (Al2O3; 50 µm) and then classified into two equal groups (n=14) according to the surface treatment method (total-etch bond and silane coupling agent or universal bond). Each group was further divided into 2 …

Room Temperature Aging Of Pd-Cu-Ga Dental Alloys, William A. Brantley, Zhuo Cai, Qiang Wu, Alan B. Carr, John C. Mitchell Jan 1995

Room Temperature Aging Of Pd-Cu-Ga Dental Alloys, William A. Brantley, Zhuo Cai, Qiang Wu, Alan B. Carr, John C. Mitchell

Cells and Materials

Specimens of three Pd-Cu-Ga dental alloys cast five years ago and subsequently stored at room temperature were reexamined and observed to have lower amounts of the eutectic constituents in the near-surface region than originally present, along with other microstructural changes. This previously unreported room temperature aging behavior of these alloys is attributed to the presence of high-diffusivity paths in the non-equilibrium ascast eutectic structures and to the essential role of the surface for the vacancy diffusion mechanism. These results may have important clinical significance for the ill vivo corrosion resistance and long-term biocompatibility of the Pd-Cu-Ga alloys.
