The Effects Of The Oral Exercises On The Oral Function Of People With Dementia, Kwanrutai Somsak Jan 2021

The Effects Of The Oral Exercises On The Oral Function Of People With Dementia, Kwanrutai Somsak

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

The objective of this study was to examine the effects of the home-based oral exercises on the oral function in people with mild to moderate dementia. The patients with mild to moderate dementia at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, who were randomly allocated to an experimental group (n = 11), were asked to perform 3 home-based oral exercises for 3 months while those in a control group (n = 11) did not do any oral exercises. The oral function including maximum tongue pressure (MTP), oral diadochokinesis (ODK) rates of /ta/, /ka/, /pa/, swallowing function (modified water swallowing test: MWST), and oral …

Comparison Of Implant-Retained Overdenture And Conventional Complete Denture In The Edentulous Mandible: A Survey Study To Measure Patients' Satisfaction And Quality Of Life In Dental School Clinical Environment, Ahmad Kutkut Jan 2021

Comparison Of Implant-Retained Overdenture And Conventional Complete Denture In The Edentulous Mandible: A Survey Study To Measure Patients' Satisfaction And Quality Of Life In Dental School Clinical Environment, Ahmad Kutkut

Theses and Dissertations--Clinical and Translational Science

Patient satisfaction and quality of life are integral parts of assessing the quality of oral health care. Current aging population trends suggest a growing need to understand the effects of edentulism on oral health and quality of life. As the proportion of aged Americans expands, there will be an increased need to understand treatment options and patient communication strategies. In addition, as new treatment options and innovative technologies emerge, it will be essential to understand patients' concerns and identify best practices associated with denture treatments' individual fit and function. Advanced denture treatments can now be fabricated using CAD/CAM digital denture …

The Efficacy Of Universal Ceramic Polishing Kit On The Surface Roughness Of Various Ceramic Types, Ekaluck Poosanthanasarn Jan 2021

The Efficacy Of Universal Ceramic Polishing Kit On The Surface Roughness Of Various Ceramic Types, Ekaluck Poosanthanasarn

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

The objective of this vitro study was to determine the effect of polishing performance of a universal ceramic polishing kit on the surface roughness of various ceramics. The ceramic specimen size 5 x 7 x 4 mm of lithium disilicate glass ceramic (IPS e.max CAD, Ivoclar Vivadent, Liechtenstein), translucent zirconia (VITA YZ XT, VITA Zahnfabrik, Germany) and zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate (Celtra Duo, Dentsply Sirona, United States) (n=8) were fixed with clear resin in PVC block, 14 mm in diameter. The specimens were ground with fine diamond bur for 15 seconds to simulate clinical gross contouring. The two-step polishing process started with …

Antifungal, Physical, And Mechanical Properties Of Tissue Conditioner Incorporated With Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles, Woraporn Homsiang Jan 2021

Antifungal, Physical, And Mechanical Properties Of Tissue Conditioner Incorporated With Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles, Woraporn Homsiang

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

This study evaluated the antifungal, physical, and mechanical properties of tissue conditioner incorporated with different amounts of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnOnps) at different storage times (0, 7, and 14 days). Specimens of 0, 5, 10, 15 wt% ZnOnps, or 15 wt% nystatin incorporated into tissue conditioner were fabricated. The direct contact test (n=6) was performed to evaluate the antifungal effect against C. albicans suspension. Scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (n=6) were used to observe the amount and distribution of superficial zinc element. The penetration depth (n=6) and tensile bond strength (n=8) were evaluated following ISO 13139. The …

Accuracy Of Implant Placement Utilizing Stereolithographic Guides Printed With And Without Cross-Arch Stabilization Struts, Caitlin Libby Dds Jan 2021

Accuracy Of Implant Placement Utilizing Stereolithographic Guides Printed With And Without Cross-Arch Stabilization Struts, Caitlin Libby Dds

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the accuracy of implant placement using stereolithographic guides printed with and without stabilization struts by comparing the post-operative position to the planned implant position.

Methods: A pre-operative cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) of a drillable maxillary model was obtained and data was uploaded into coDiagnostiX for preoperative planning. The implant position was planned in an edentulous space of #5 using a 3.3x10mm Bone Level Tapered (BLT) implant (Straumann). Ten surgical guides were designed utilizing a stabilization strut (Group A), while ten guides were designed without the stabilization strut (Group B). Twenty guides …

Accuracy Of Digital Impressions At Varying Implant Depths: An In-Vitro Study, Vivia Sequeira Jan 2021

Accuracy Of Digital Impressions At Varying Implant Depths: An In-Vitro Study, Vivia Sequeira

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Introduction: Implants placed at variable depths may vary the amount of visible scannable surface of a scan body. Intraoral scanner technology uses advanced optical principles to record the surface of the scan body to accurately capture the implant position.

Purpose: To investigate the effect implant placement depth has on the accuracy of digital implant impressions using an intraoral scanner.

Materials & Methods: A partially edentulous gypsum master model was fabricated to allow the positioning of a single implant analog at different depths. Four groups based on the planned implant depths of 0, 3, 6 and 7mm and corresponding visibility of …
