Journal of Dentistry Indonesia

Background: Periodontal disease is one of the most prevalent oral health problems in Indonesia that affects supporting tissues of the teeth. Porphyromonas gingivalis plays an important role in the pathogenesis of periodontal disease. Alternative therapy with natural plant extracts, including pineapple (Ananas comosus) hump extract may inhibit the growth of bacteria that cause periodontal disease. Objective: To determine the effect of pineapple hump extract on bacterial growth and adhesion of Porphyromonas gingivalis biofilms. Method: The bacterial inhibition test was performed by the agar well diffusion method, and biofilm density measurements were made using the biofilm assay method. Results: Pineapple hump …

Congenital Epulis: A Two-Case Report, Monica Ivanov, Bianca Stroe, Valeriu Ardeleanu, Razvan Hainarosie, Vlad Denis Constantin, Anca Silvia Dumitriu, Stana Paunica, Anna Kadar

Journal of Mind and Medical Sciences

Congenital epulis is a rare benign tumor of the newborn that could be detected in the prenatal period. Females are more often affected than males and the premaxillary region is usually the predilection site for this oral mass. Excision is the treatment of choice and no recurrences have been reported so far.

We present our experience with two cases of congenital epulis, detected in the second trimester of gestation and treated shortly after birth with no further complications. Histopathology should differentiate between congenital epulis and other congenital oral tumors even if its clinical appearance is usually enough to make a …

Cementoblastoma is classically related to roots of teeth with the presence of calcified cementum-like material. To date, only a single case of concomitant unilateral COF and CB has been reported in the literature.
Case presentation: We present an unusual case of a 37-year-old female who presented with two discrete bilateral swellings in the right and left mandible for 10 …

Results: The buccal bone widths of mesial root of second molars were significantly lower than the lingual (p<0.05). The lingual bone widths of mesial and distal root of second molars were lower than the buccal (p<0.05). The lowest thickness of buccal and lingual bone was observed in mesial root of first molar and distal root of second molar. The prevalence of fenestration in mandibular first and second molars was 5% and 10%.

Conclusion: The buccal bone widths were lower at the first molar than the second molar. …

Influence Of Metal Sleeves In The Accuracy Of Dental Implant Placement Using Guided Implant Surgery, Coleman Adams Jan 2021

Influence Of Metal Sleeves In The Accuracy Of Dental Implant Placement Using Guided Implant Surgery, Coleman Adams

Theses and Dissertations

The fabrication of implant surgical guides through stereolithographic 3D printing has become a staple in dental implant guided surgery over the last couple decades. These surgical guides have typically utilized metal sleeves to assist in guidance of the drills during osteotome preparation. The metal sleeves can be costly and potentially cause deviations if improperly placed during post-processing of the guide. This research explored a novel method for the utilization of sleeve-free surgical guides by comparing the dimensional and angulational deviations between the implant guides with and without a metal sleeve. To achieve this goal, two separate aims were pursued. Our …
