This investigation was conducted to assess the Prevalence of Dysphonia, while comparing indoor and outdoor athletic coaches. This investigation also looked at the prevalence of self-perceived vocal dysphonia symptoms within collegiate athletic coaches. This study was conducted by distributing a survey to the Division I athletic coaches in the state of Arkansas. The survey consisted of demographic questions, a questionnaire that explored the self-perceived vocal symptoms, clinician perspective vocal ratings, and acoustic parameters of voice recordings. The voice is an extensively utilized tool for high school marching band directors, which places them at risk for vocal disorders due to the profession's demands. This investigation sought to explore the mental health differences between caregivers of individuals with fluent aphasia versus caregivers of individuals with nonfluent aphasia with a focus on their levels of depression, anxiety, and stress. This study had a quantitative, non-experimental between group research design, utilizing a Qualtrics survey including the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and the Perceived Stress scale to collect all data. Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) is a preventable yet widespread occupational hazard, especially among agricultural workers who are regularly exposed to high levels of noise from equipment, machinery, and firearms (Lander et al., 2007; Milz et al., 2008). Young and future farmers may be particularly vulnerable due to early and prolonged exposure combined with limited awareness about the risks of noise and the importance of hearing protection (Balanay & Kearney, 2015; Martin et al., 2006). This study examined the influence of training in SPEAK OUT!® on the perceptual ratings of voice and speech made by communication disorders (CD) graduate students. The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of SPEAK OUT!® training by comparing those who have undergone SPEAK OUT!® training with those who have not. To address this, 36 participants who attend communication disorders graduate programs within the United States were recruited. Data were collected through a Qualtrics survey distributed via email and analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). This study examined the impact of bilingual home literacy environments (HLEs) on the emergent literacy skills of Hispanic children enrolled in an after-school program in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Thirteen Spanish–English bilingual children in kindergarten through third grade and their parents participated. Parent-reported data were collected using an adapted Spanish–English Reading Questionnaire (SER-Q), and children’s literacy skills were assessed with the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) and the Spanish Reading Inventory–Second Edition (SRI-2). Many research studies have focused on voice disorders in occupational voice users (i.e., teachers, singers, coaches). However, there is limited research on voice disorders in cheerleaders. Therefore, this study investigated the presence of dysphonia in division I collegiate sideline cheerleaders before and after the 2023 football season. Participants included twenty-six collegiate sideline cheerleaders at a division I university. Participants completed a demographic survey and the Voice Handicap Index (VHI). In addition, their modal, high, and low pitch frequencies were measured, and voices were assessed using the Consensual Auditory-Perceptual Evaluation of Voice. Dysphagia, defined as impaired swallowing, affects children and is often treated by modifying food textures and thickening liquids before consumption. Early intervention day treatment (EIDT) facilities serve children with developmental delays and medical conditions that may require food modification such as thickened liquids. Inaccuracies in thickened liquid consistency have been documented in multiple professions, leading to potential negative health implications for the consumer. Purpose: This study aims to observe elementary school teachers’ knowledge and attitudes of voice disorders in children. Method: Seventy-nine elementary school teachers electronically completed the survey on Qualtrics. Results: The results of this study support the theory that teachers have limited knowledge of voice and voice disorders and that children with abnormal voices are rated less favorably than their peers with normal voices. In addition, it was found that teachers' knowledge does not correlate with their attitudes toward pediatric voice samples. This research provides insight into interprofessional collaboration between healthcare students and advocates for speech-language pathology (SLP) by highlighting the necessity to increase the awareness of SLPs’ responsibilities and interprofessional education across all disciplines throughout college education. Specifically, healthcare professionals need to have a complete understanding of what type of care patients are receiving or who they may need to be referred to. This qualitative study was conducted to gain a better understanding of how speech-language pathologists (SLP) prepare for and provide professional counseling to those at the end-of-life stage. Participants in this study consisted of SLPs from northeast Arkansas with at least three years of experience providing counseling in an English-speaking setting to individuals at the end-of-life stage. This phenomenological qualitative study aims to explore the perspectives of caregivers of individuals with Parkinson’s disease (PD) participating in the SPEAK OUT!® program and to assess its potential to alleviate some aspects of caregiver burden. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with six caregivers. These results highlighted overarching themes of program benefits, caregiver challenges, and caregiver rewards while expressing challenges with the program. Caregivers mentioned that the participants had challenges with inconsistent practice and resistance to applying the skills they learned from the program daily. This study investigated what nurses know about stuttering and their perceptions of people who stutter to contribute to research concerning building medical professionalism with people who stutter. An electronic survey was distributed to licensed nurses in the United States through a social media post. Results revealed that nurses are unsure of the cause of stuttering, which aligns with current research on the cause of stuttering.

This study investigated the potential effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on preschool children’s language development. Children from the Arkansas Delta Region were examined to determine the significance. Existing data consisting of BRIGANCE III screeners from the 2019 cohort and 2022 cohort were analyzed. Researchers examined the scores from the screener's language and cognitive/academic sections. BRIGANCE III screeners from 73 three-year-olds were collected from the School of the 21st Century Preschool in Paragould, AR. Data from the screeners analyzed the 2019 and 2022 cohorts. This qualitative study was to determine clinical supervisors' perceptions of graduate students’ skill set of articulation disorders compared to motor speech disorders. Participants in this study included SLP clinical supervisors of Master’s level graduate students in Communication Disorders across various pediatric settings, including private practice, school-based or outpatient clinics in north central Arkansas. The purpose of this research was to investigate if there was a relationship between hearing loss and length of employment in the steel industry. Participants included 11 males that worked in the steel industry. Participants completed questionnaires regarding demographics, employment, and noise exposure, as well as took part in an audiological exam. The results of the audiological evaluations showed that 45% of participants had hearing loss in the right ear, 36% of participants had hearing loss in the left ear, and 36% of participants had loss in both ears. The purpose of this study was to survey female high school athletes’ knowledge of sport-related concussion (SRC) long-term impacts. This study utilized the Rosenbaum Concussion Knowledge and Attitudes Survey – Student Version regarding the knowledge and attitudes high school athletes have towards SRCs to determine if they knew the severity of the possible long-term impacts. The task of producing good quality instrumental music requires musicians to spend many years auditorily training their ears. The purpose of this study was to determine if musicians have advanced central auditory processing (CAP) abilities compared to non-musicians. The participants included nine musicians and ten non-musicians. The SCAN-3:A for adolescents and Adults: Tests for Auditory Processing disorder was administered to each participant. This test included Filtered Words (auditory closure), Auditory Figure Ground (speech in background noise), and Competing Words/Sentences (dichotic listening). The purpose of the study was to examine the experiences with and perceptions of racially and socioeconomically diverse people in accessing early intervention day treatment (EIDT) facilities. Participants completed a questionnaire which included questions regarding the parents’ age, ethnicity, socioeconomic status (SES), gender, education level, income level, along with other questions. This study was performed using a survey distributed to university department chairs across the United States. The purpose of this investigation was to determine if stuttering is a possible symptom of concussions in collegiate athletes. This study utilized a 10-question survey regarding the occurrence of concussions and possible stuttering symptoms that followed. The survey was distributed to the Arkansas State University rugby team. The results of the study revealed that greater than half of the players who experienced concussions also experienced co-occurring stuttering symptoms. Though this study utilized a small sample size, it revealed that further research is needed regarding stuttering as a symptom of concussions.

This survey was designed to help determine if students training to become speech-language pathologists (SLP) in the Master of Communication Disorders program at Arkansas State University practice daily vocal hygiene regimens and understand the importance of maintaining a healthy voice. The purpose of this study was to measure the qualitative and quantitative vocal characteristics of an individual with adductor spasmodic dysphonia (ADSD) who was treated with botulinum toxin (Botox) injections. ADSD is a voice disorder that affects voice muscles and is characterized by rigid movement of the vocal folds and inconsistent speech. The participant was acoustically recorded and completed a diary regarding vocal changes before and after Botox injections to compare vocal changes that occurred over time.
