Introduction: Some people with tinnitus have normal audiometric hearing thresholds. Even when hearing is within normal limits, patients can suffer a myriad of symptoms from tinnitus, including depression and other mental health problems. Case Presentation: A male adult presented to the clinic with complaints of bothersome tinnitus, asymmetric hearing loss, and a long history of environmental noise exposure, including both occupational and recreational noise. Discussion: Audiologists should determine the primary concerns of their tinnitus patients and how the condition affects their health and wellbeing. Introduction: labyrinthitis occurs when both branches of the vestibulocochlear nerve swell, specifically the vestibular and cochlear portions. Diagnosed by the process of elimination, labyrinthitis can have detrimental auditory and vestibular effects when identified untimely. When diagnosed early, labyrinthitis can be resolved with rest, medication, and vestibular rehabilitation therapy. Case Presentation: A young adult presented to the clinic with a heavy head sensation, lack of concentration, and blurry vision that escalated to left ear fullness, unilateral tinnitus, and an untriggered persistent headache. Introduction: Tinnitus is characterized by a sporadic or constant ringing, chirping, buzzing, or related characteristics that are perceived auditorily and can range in intensity. Case Presentation: A young adult female with normal hearing sensitivity presented to the clinic with constant unilateral pulsatile tinnitus in the right ear that was intensified with physical activity and caffeine. It was reported as sudden in onset and classified as severely debilitating. After extensive audiologic testing, personalized counseling, and a thorough medical evaluation, the patient received an open-fit monaural hearing aid to promote safe sound therapy and tinnitus habituation. Introduction: Misophonia is a rare disorder affecting approximately one in 1,500 people, of which, a small percentage are pediatric patients. Misophonia is characterized by the dislike of an explicit sound in a specific context. Treatment for misophonia includes a four-step program that can be modified for pediatrics. Case Presentation: A young female presented to the clinic with a significant distressed reaction when in the presence of specific sounds that included chewing, clicking pens, and loud music bass tones. Discussion: Treatment of misophonia is comparable to a care-plan for both tinnitus and hyperacusis. For this case, a four-step approach was used …

Introduction: Vestibular aqueducts follow a route through the inner ear that terminates within the skull and, in most circumstances, aqueducts are narrow and bony. An enlarged vestibular aqueduct (EVA) is most commonly caused by a mutation in the SLC26A4 gene. There are other unidentified environmental and genetic causes that produce EVA as well. At the time this case was reported, no surgeries or treatments existed that could repair an EVA. Case presentation: A bilingual male child presented with congenital bilateral EVAs. The anthropometrics of the external auditory canal (EAC) is clinically pertinent to producing effective custom hearing protection devices (HPD). If custom HPDs are incorrectly fit, they will not attenuate an appropriate level of sound, increasing the likelihood that the user might be exposed to hazardous intensity levels. Researchers have attempted to measure the EAC using a multitude of approaches. Research technology, called ear scanning, appears to provide the ability to measure the EAC effectively. Introduction: One of the leading causes of centrally based vestibular impairment is a cerebrovascular accident (CVA). Patients typically present with limb or facial weakness, dizziness and imbalance, impaired vision, and speech or language dysfunction, however, these symptoms can vary depending on the site of lesion. Case presentation: An 85-year-old female presented with dizziness, bilateral tinnitus, aural fullness, and aphasia, occurring after she suffered a CVA. Three months after the CVA, she was seen by a balance clinic for a videonystagmography (VNG) and audiologic evaluation. Discussion: CVAs can alter the blood supply to the inner ear and its nerve …

The purpose of this research study is to determine how young adults and middle-aged adults process speech in different complex listening environments. Young adult and middle-aged adult volunteers will complete a cognitive screening and audiological evaluation to establish inclusionary status for experimental speech understanding in noise testing. If they meet the requirements of the study and wish to participate further, they will continue with a semantic judgement task, in which they will be asked to listen and respond to words presented in different background noises.
