An Exploration Of Dress Codes In Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Programs, Brumbaugh Klaire

This investigation utilized a qualitative approach to explore dress code policy in twelve Midwestern master’s in speech-language pathology programs. After a written policy review, the clinic directors associated with each program were interviewed. Following the interview, the clinic directors sent a survey to the graduate students to complete (n = 74). Findings suggest that the dress codes in speech pathology should consider concepts related to client perception, discipline, financial responsibility, and safety when considering their dress codes. Information related to how to use the findings to support all students is discussed.

Physiological and psychosocial components impact quality of life for adults with neurogenic communication disorders. This study aimed to understand these components in pre-service preparation of speech-language pathology adult neurogenic communication courses. Interview and archival data sources were used in a mixed-methods analysis.

Does the amount of time that a child spends watching videos or playing games on electronic devices elevate their risk for developing an expressive speech and/or language delay? This session will elucidate the risks and negative associations involved with excessive exposure to screen time and its influence on the development of appropriate speech and language skills. A basic definition of screen time will be identified. Alternatives to executing appropriate utilization of screen time will be represented. A digital language processing tool that outlines how to assess the negative impacts of screen time on speech and language development will be explained.
