Obesity is a heterogeneous metabolic disease with variable outcomes. Consequently, many Americans struggle with misperceptions about obesity. Obesity in America, by Rosenthal et al., is a report of a survey organized by the Executive Council of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery to identify misperceptions in the diagnosis, barriers, and treatment of obesity. The survey was administered by a highly qualified and experienced organization, NORC, and expanded upon the 2013 Associated Press-NORC survey that sought to identify similar misperceptions about obesity, with additional survey components.
