Therapeutic activities are activities that encourage social interaction and promote cognitive skills. When these activities are put on hold for an extended period of time it can be detrimental to the Long-Term Care population. Depression related to social isolation has plagued the LongTerm Care population since the onset of COVID, causing increased sickness and in some situations death. To understand the relationship amongst anxiety, depression, and music therapy, this integrative review synthesizes the major themes and relevant education of articles discussing mental health and the benefit of music. While most existing studies focus on using music therapy to treat pain and clinical anxiety, the content of this paper is written to emphasize how the same principles can be used in unmanageable stress and emotional decomposition. COVID-19 brought to light many things worldwide. One of the pressing issues was the increased rates of burnout, depression, and suicidal risk among nurses. This called for examining nurses’ work experiences and overall well-being during the Coronavirus pandemic. Furthermore, it was revealed that the nursing mindset regarding self-care was overlooked. Obesity and depression share a bidirectional relationship when they exist as comorbidities in addition to individually posing complex public health challenges. Evidence from recent years suggests that there is a benefit to treating these illnesses with an integrated approach when they co-occur, but no current clinical guideline exists for this approach. The purpose of this integrative review is to synthesize existing literature and report current interventions targeting the management of comorbid obesity and depression in adults. With an increasingly commercialized healthcare setting, today’s physicians are often forced to reduce their patient examination times drastically. There has also been a greater shift in the administration of primary care to allied health professionals such as physician assistants and nurse practitioners. However, these changes may not be sustainable in the long-term. Depression is common among older adults in long-term care (LTC) facilities. As many as 50%-80% of residents will experience depressive symptoms or have a diagnosis of depression. Depression increases the risk of poor health-related outcomes in older adults. A review of the literature suggests that early intervention using movement-based techniques decreases the risk for depression and improves depressive symptoms. This scholarly project aimed to reduce the risk of depression of residents in an LTC located in a suburban area in Midwestern United States. Depression is a major clinical concern, having a complex onset and the presence of multiple, often unidentifiable causes. Depression affects millions of individuals worldwide, with a high prevalence in regions of the world with a Western-style diet as compared to regions with a Mediterranean diet. A Western-style diet consists of foods high in sugar, fat, and processed meats and grains, whereas the Mediterranean diet contains significantly more vegetables, fruits, lean meats, and whole grains. Patients with psoriasis are at an increased risk for depression. Despite this risk, many dermatology care providers do not screen for depression in practice, including providers at the target practice for this project. This evidence-based practice pilot project was purposed to increase dermatology providers’ assessment of depression in patients with psoriasis. This project involved implementing a depression screening protocol at one private dermatology practice and educating providers on the use of the protocol including the embedded depression screening tool, the Patient Health Questionnaire-9. According to Lynne Weilart (2013), in her article on the reasons why people seek out therapy, trauma is the number one reason people attend counseling. Many different trauma-informed approaches are designed specifically to address the consequences of trauma and to facilitate healing. Some of these approaches are as follows: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT);Mentalization Based Therapy (MBT); Trauma Systems Therapy (TST); Trauma Assessment Pathway (TAP); and Attachment, Self-Regulation, and Competency (ARC) (de Arellano, Danielson, Ko, & Sprauge, 2008). Depression is common amongst patients with cardiovascular disease. This evidence-based project was designed to evaluate the impact of a practice improvement intervention for screening and referrals in cardiac patients with depression. The American Heart Association Advisory Council recommends depression screening, treatment, and support to provide adequate diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up to patients. Cardiacrehabilitation (CR) is a coordinated effort of structured treatments with physical, mental, and social components, to favorably influence cardiac healing and resume optimal functioning. In this scholarly project, the project leader implemented a chart audit and provider feedback intervention with the aim of improving provider referrals for patients who screened positive for depression—a risk factor in the myocardial infarction (MI) population—with the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). The clinical question was developed in order to examine whether the depression-screening tool that was implemented improved provider referrals to the in-house licensed counselor or primary care physician after an educational feedback intervention, focusing on physicians, nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs). Postpartum depression is recognized as the most common complication of childbearing; however, its etiology remains fairly undetermined. Many different influences have been hypothesized as to what may cause postpartum depression, including changes in levels of various hormones (such as estrogen and progesterone), a decrease in serotonin, low levels of vitamin D, social factors, and iron deficiency. The lack of strong evidence for one specific cause makes it fairly clear that there are many factors that play a role in the development of postpartum depression. Context: The prescribing of exercise by physicians has become a popular practice, yet the effectiveness of exercise on symptoms of depression is difficult to determine due to a lack of randomized controlled trials with clinical populations. Reports also indicate that only a small percentage of physicians advise their patients regarding exercise and confusion still exists as to how much and what types are best.
