Febrile Neutropenia (FN) is a common, yet potentially life-threatening, complication in cancer patients receiving myelosuppressive chemotherapy. FN occurs when a patient has a temperature of greater than 100.4℉ with an absolute neutrophil count of less than 500cells/mm³, which places the patient at a high risk for infection. Fever may be the only sign of FN. FN is an oncologic emergency, requiring immediate, aggressive treatment with broad-spectrum antibiotics. FN is associated with high morbidity and mortality in cancer patients.

Skin cancer is an important topic in the United States due to the recent increase in cost and mortality. The purpose of this evidence-based practice (EBP) project was to determine if the early implementation of a multicomponent sun prevention program positively impacted kindergarten and first grade students’ knowledge and behavioral intentions to practice safe sun techniques after a one week period. Kotter’s Model of Change and the ACE Star model were utilized to guide this EBP project. Cancer is an illness that knows no international boundaries. There are more than eight million global cancer deaths each year. A life-threatening diagnosis generates significant emotional problems for many patients across cultures. Death distress—consisting of death depression, death anxiety and death obsession—often results in poorer treatment adherence and lower overall health and quality of life. Although pediatric cancer survival rates continue to rise, there are high rates of anxiety, fear, and depression amongst this population. Minority immigrant women are more likely to be diagnosed with and suffer from cervical cancer compared to other minority women in the United States. The purpose of this qualitative ethnographic study was to explore cultural health perceptions, behaviors, and barriers to cervical cancer prevention among Korean immigrant women (KIW) in Hawaii. The health belief model and the social-ecological model were used to guide the study. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a nurse navigator in increasing colorectal (CRC) screening in primary care setting.

METHODS: This was a descriptive retrospective study of the effect of nurse navigators in increasing colorectal screening in primary care settings within Jefferson county and its surrounding counties. The sample consisted of 200 patient chart reviews for the period of September 1st through December 31st, 2017. Rates of colorectal screening were compared in those who received a nurse navigator call and those who did not.

Anxiety and depression are common mood disorders in cancer patients, regardless of mental state prior to diagnosis. A gap in the education of oncology nurses in an eastern Caribbean island was discovered regarding their ability to identify anxiety and depression symptoms and to help patients who suffered from these disorders. The purpose of this project was to improve oncology nurses' assessment skills by reviewing appropriate use of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) tool and familiarizing nurses with resources to help patients who score high on the HADS.
