Association Between Inflammatory Bowel Disease And Cancer Risk: Evidence Triangulation From Genetic Correlation, Mendelian Randomization, And Colocalization Analyses Across East Asian And European Populations, Di Liu, Meiling Cao, Haotian Wang, Weijie Cao, Chenguang Zheng, Yun Li, Youxin Wang

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which includes Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), has been associated with several cancer risks in observational studies, but the observed associations have been inconsistent and may face the bias of confounding and reverse causality. The potential causal relationships between IBD and the risk of cancers remain largely unclear. Methods: We performed genome-wide linkage disequilibrium score regression (LDSC), standard two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR), and colocalization analyses using summary genome-wide association study (GWAS) data across East Asian and European populations to evaluate the causal relationships between IBD and cancers. Sensitivity analyses for the MR approach …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/Aim Our primary aim was to investigate the effects of concomitant celiac disease (CD) on the clinical characteristics of Behçet’s syndrome (BS) patients. Materials and method The study was a retrospective, nationwide, multi-center study. Turkish Ministry of Health National Electronic Database (e-Nabız) is used under Health Ministry's supervision to extract the subject's data. Statistical Analysis Statistical analyses were made by the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software version 20 (IBM Corp., Armonk, New York). Continuous variables were presented by mean ± standard derivation (SD) or median (min–max) according to normality and compared by student-T test. Results A total of …

Graduate Medical Education Research Journal

Rampant autoimmune disease has the potential to ravage the entirety of the body in a systemic fashion. Rarely, it has been reported for Takotsubo cardiomyopathy develop as a result of refractory inflammatory bowel disease. Balancing the comprehensive cares required to support both the cardiovascular system and treat the underlying autoimmune condition care present unique challenges. Here, we describe a patient who developed late-onset Takotsubo cardiomyopathy after prolonged systemic stress as a result of uncontrolled Crohn’s disease. While this patient unfortunately did succumb to the disease process, it is our hope that highlighting these rare cases may progress care for future …

Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health Publications

Background

Bowel ultrasonography (BUS) is emerging as a promising noninvasive tool for assessing disease activity in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients. We evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of BUS in IBD patients against the gold standard diagnostic method, standard colonoscopy.

Methods

Major databases were searched from inception to May 2023 for studies on BUS diagnostic accuracy in IBD. Outcomes of interest were pooled sensitivity, specificity, positive (PPV), and negative (NPV) predictive values. Endoscopic confirmation served as ground truth. Standard meta-analysis methods with a random-effects model and I2 statistics were applied. Risk of bias was assessed using the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic …

Associations Among Psychosocial Factors, Health-Related Quality Of Life, And Adherence In Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Cecelia I. Nelson

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a prevalent disorder among youth in the United States. IBD is one of the leading causes of chronic pain in adolescence and symptoms can lead to reduced quality of life, social embarrassment, and lower self-esteem. Adherence to medical regimens for IBD is incredibly important to prevent morbidity, mortality, and impaired health-related quality of life (HRQOL). However, adolescents struggle generally with adherence and the regimen for IBD can be complicated and include aversive side effects. Psychological factors, such as depressive symptoms, are key factors associated with non-adherence. Nevertheless, gut-specific anxiety (GSA) is a psychological factor that …
