FCoV viruses exhibit great genetic diversity, leading to the presence of FIPV-causing variants. Current molecular evolution analysis and genetic variation studies of FCoV in China are predominately focused on gene encoding the spike protein or other structural proteins, while few studies have evaluated genetic variations in nonstructural FCoV genes, which can play an important role in disease pathogenesis. In this study, the gene encoding the open reading frame (ORF) 7b nonstructural FCoV protein of the Chinese Fujian strain FJLY20201 was amplified from the ascitic fluid of a Chinese domestic cat infected with FIPV and compared with ORF 7b from previously …

To identify further the infectivity, genetic diversity and molecular characteristics of the porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV). 286 samples of the intestinal tissue of pigs with severe diarrhea were assessed from 5 provinces in the north of Vietnam. The full-length ORF3 gene of 20 representative field strains from 36 farms in 5 provinces was sequenced and analyzed. The prevalence of PEDV was 90.56% and was detected in 259 of 286 samples, with 94.44% (34 of 36) of pig farms harboring the disease. Based on the phylogenetic analysis of the ORF3 genes, our isolates all fell into group G2 (variants) and …

Muscovy duck parvovirus (MDPV) is fatal for young ducklings of less than 3 weeks of age and has caused severe economic loss in duck production in many countries and regions. We report here on a complete genome sequence of a recombinant MDPV strain YL08 isolated from an ill Muscovy duck in 2008 at Qiqihar, Heilongjiang province, China. This genome, MDPV YL08, was 5061 nucleotides long and retained the two ORFs, which are typical in the Parvovirinae family. The genome of YL08 strain has a putative recombination breakpoint on its VP1 gene. This study has helped our understanding of the genetic …
