Public health and social care systems in Canada are frequently racist and discriminatory towards Indigenous people and exacerbates health inequities that Indigenous people experience. In New Brunswick, there are a range of culturally informed health and social services being offered within First Nations communities and by Indigenous organization that operate outside of reserves. Some of these services and organizations rely on support from non-Indigenous allies to meet the needs of their community members.

Although positive learning outcomes have been documented for nursing students who participate in virtual simulation for community health nursing clinical education (Chircop & Cobbett, 2020), it is unknown whether learning outcomes of students using the same virtual simulation program are comparable across jurisdictions. Nine schools of nursing across Canada (Nova Scotia, Ontario, British Columbia) implemented and evaluated Sentinel City a virtual simulation program to complement the traditional community clinical, or as an alternative learning experience. Introduction: Increased human health concerns related to the natural environment and climate change are having a growing impact on nursing practice. This past year in Canada, for example, British Columbia reported the highest number of heat related deaths, followed by devasting forest fires in many provinces that have disproportionately impacted Indigenous Peoples. Nurses are well positioned to address the direct health impacts associated with climate change. As a result, nurses require an increased level of ecoliteracy to address the health impacts linked to climate change.
