Background/aim: We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of fulvestrant and its affecting clinical factors, including the optimal sequencing of fulvestrant and chemotherapy in a real-life cohort. Methods: The data of 256 metastatic hormone-positive breast cancer patients treated with fulvestrant were evaluated. The association of clinical factors with survival was analyzed with Kaplan-Meier and Cox-regression analyses. Results: The median age of patients was 57 years. More than half of the patients used fulvestrant in later lines and after chemotherapy (75.8%). The median progression-free (PFS) and overall survival (OS) of all cohort were 6.05 ± 0.56 and 29.70 ± 1.61 months, respectively. …

Background/aim: To evaluate the role of cyclic protein arginine methyltransferase 5 (circPRMT5) in the occurrence and development of breast cancer (BC). Materials and methods: A total of 90 BC patients who underwent radical mastectomy and 40 age-matched healthy female controls were recruited in the Second People's Hospital of China Three Gorges University, Yichang Second People's Hospital from 2017 to 2020. Quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was used to detect the expression levels of circPRMT5 in BC tissues, serum, normal breast cell line (MCF-10A), and BC cell line (T47D, MCF-7, BT549, Hs-578T, and MDA-MB-231, MDAMB-468). The associations between circPRMT5 …

Predictors Of Lymphovascular Invasion In Estrogen Receptor Positive/Her-2 Negative Breast Cancer Patients Treated With Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy, Eyyüp Çavdar, Yakup İri̇ağaç

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: Lymphovascular invasion (LVI) is considered a high-risk factor for recurrence in early-stage breast cancer, hence examination of LVI in pathological samples is an absolute recommendation. We aim to investigate predictive factors of LVI in preneoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) patients with estrogen receptor positive (ER+) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 negative (HER2-) molecular subtypes of breast cancer. Materials and methods: One hundred and thirty-four patients treated with NAC were included in this study who were ER+/HER2-. The clinical characteristics of the patients, the data obtained from the core needle biopsy before NAC and the LVI status in the pathology …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: Assessing the validity and clinical utility of axillary ultrasonography (AUS)-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) in detection of nodal metastasis during preoperative axillary investigation in comparison to the histopathologic diagnosis in early-stage breast cancer. Materials and methods: A total of 279 operated primary breast cancer patients (age: 55.3 ± 12.8, ranged 17-90 years) were included. Data on AUS findings at the time of initial diagnosis (first look AUS), second-look AUS findings performed by the breast radiologist during breast biopsy procedure and the AUS-guided FNAB findings were evaluated with respect to the final histopathology report obtained through axillary surgery via …
