Heart failure is a serious chronic health problem requiring ongoing management to control disease progression. Consequences of inadequate heart failure management include acute exacerbation, worsening baseline status, and possibly death. Nurses play a key role in surveillance of patients with heart failure and in management of their condition as part of the interprofessional health care team. Untethered Lecture Capture (ULC) is a teaching method facilitating student classroom engagement while simultaneously creating audiovisual lecture capture (LC) resources. This single-site, convergent parallel mixed-methods study qualitatively described how nursing students with attrition risk factors perceived ULC influenced learning and quantified how such students utilized LC. Study participants (N = 28) reported watching most LC resources (57.1%) and 42.9% watched entire LC videos from start to finish. Qualitative findings produced new evidence about untethered faculty proximity in the classroom and ULC techniques supporting in-class focus and post-class self-paced learning efficiencies. Nurse educators are being challenged with preparing nursing students to provide compassionate, patient-centered care despite the stress and psychological challenges of today’s healthcare environment. Self-compassion is a practice of mindfulness, self-kindness, and common humanity which positively influences and predicts psychological health. The Debriefing Experience Scale (DES) is a tool that is used to explore nursing students’ subjective experiences during a debriefing and to help determine best debriefing practices. A Chinese version of the scale has not been found; its development can enhance learning in simulation activites in Chinese healthcare education programs.

Methods

A simplified Chinese version of the DES was developed and tested using 34 Chinese undergraduate (second year) nursing students. They participated in six simulation scenarios and debriefings. The aim of this study was to compare nursing students experiencing simulations (SIM group) (n=25) versus clinical placement (CPG) (n=55) in perinatal care. Questionnaires on satisfaction, self-confidence and perceived support were completed by both groups. Knowledge acquisition was assessed using standardized course evaluation. The Student’s t-test showed that differences between groups were not statistically significant for knowledge acquisition and satisfaction, while they were statistically significant for self-confidence and perceived support with higher scores in the CPG group. Resilience has been found to mitigate the effects of high, prolonged stress. Despite extensive research revealing the dangers of physical restraint use, it remains a common practice in critical care settings across the globe. Nurses stand at the forefront of clinical decision-making regarding the use of physical restraints but are doing so with a lack of education and evidence-based practices. Opioid addiction is a widespread chronic disease affecting millions of Americans each year, resulting in medical, social, financial, and societal detriments. Patients experiencing opioid withdrawal benefit from a standardized and evidence-based approach to care. Background: Fluid overload in patients requiring intensive care leads to increased costs for hospitals and patients, increased length of intensive care unit (ICU) and total hospital stay, ventilator days, acute kidney injuries, and mortality rates. Multiple studies have indicated that aggressive de-resuscitation with diuretics can decrease length of stay, ventilator days, organ injury, and mortality rates. A nurse-driven diuresis protocol utilizing intravenous (IV) push furosemide was introduced to the University of Kentucky Medicine ICU, but patients are still commonly still over-resuscitated with no plan to diurese until organ damage has occurred.
