Introduction: This study aimed to produce community-level geo-spatial mapping of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ontario Canada in near real-time to support decision-making. This was accomplished by area-to-area geostatistical analysis, space-time integration, and spatial interpolation of COVID-19 positive individuals.
Methods: COVID-19 cases and locations were curated for geostatistical analyses from March 2020 through June 2021, corresponding to the first, second, and third waves of infections. Daily cases were aggregated according to designated forward sortation area (FSA), and postal codes (PC) in municipal regions Hamilton, Kitchener/Waterloo, London, Ottawa, Toronto, and Windsor/Essex county. Arboviruses are viruses transmitted by hematophagous arthropod vectors. Many of these viruses pose a threat to human health. While some infections may be asymptomatic, others may produce febrile illness, or manifest in life threatening conditions. Symptomatic diagnosis of patients with generalized febrile illness can be confounded due to the various diseases that present clinically in the same manner, and a lack of available diagnostic tests. Surveillance efforts can be used to create awareness about the prevalence of neglected tropical arthropod-borne pathogens, such as Oropouche virus (OROV), and inform preparedness measures for disease outbreaks (SURVEILLANCE SENTENCE). Like all viruses, the SARS-CoV-2 virus mutates over time, creating new viral variants that have the potential to transmit more rapidly, cause more severe disease, or avoid treatment and prevention strategies. A critical component of the public health response to COVID-19 is identifying and tracking emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants. This study aims to provide an in-depth view of septicemia mortality and incidence in the state of South Carolina through the lenses of socio-economic factors, access to healthcare, and behavioral health factors. Before the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic began, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) was among the top priorities for global public health. Already a complex challenge, AMR now needs to be addressed in a changing healthcare landscape. Here, we analyse how changes due to COVID-19 in terms of antimicrobial usage, infection prevention, and health systems affect the emergence, transmission, and burden of AMR. Increased hand hygiene, decreased international travel, and decreased elective hospital procedures may reduce AMR pathogen selection and spread in the short term. Disparities in healthcare exist in the U.S., particularly between different racial categories. This study investigated the frequency of COVID-19 cases and hypertension cases among five different racial groups (White, Black, Asian, Native American, and Native Hawaiian). The study also examined the correlation between COVID-19 and hypertension. It was hypothesized that, because of genetic predisposition to certain diseases and existing socioeconomic barriers, Black populations would have the highest rates of both COVID-19 and hypertension.
