The Clinically Aligned Pain Assessment Tool (Capa) Evidenced-Based Change Project- Benchmark Study, Mary Vitullo Dec 2020

The Clinically Aligned Pain Assessment Tool (Capa) Evidenced-Based Change Project- Benchmark Study, Mary Vitullo

MSN Capstone Projects

Pain is one of the main reasons people seek medical treatment in the United States (National Institutes of Health, 2017). Frequently, pain is inappropriately managed leading to negative patient outcomes that lead to prolonged discharge time that increases hospital costs (Trzeciak et al., 2018). This is due to improper assessment of pain which leads to challenges in pain management interventions, ultimately decreasing patient safety and satisfaction. By nature, pain reporting by patients is subjective. Various scales are utilized in the hospital setting, but these assessment scales only reflect pain intensity and are unidimensional, as opposed to pain experience and multidimensional …

Does An Empathic Pre-Visit Conversation With Another Team Member Improve Perceived Surgeon Empathy?, Lindy Derkzen, Janna S E Ottenhoff, Carrie Barron, David Ring

Patient Experience Journal

Orthopedic surgeon specialists can help alleviate symptoms and reduce self-reported activity limitations by addressing stress, distress, and unhelpful cognitive biases regarding pain (e.g., “hurt equals harm”). But noticing mental and social health opportunities in specialty care can harm the patient-surgeon relationship. This study evaluated the ability of an empathic pre-visit conversation by another team member to improve the patient-surgeon relationship measured as perceived empathy. Factors associated with pain intensity, magnitude of self-reported activity limitations, symptoms of depression, and satisfaction with the surgeon were also studied. We enrolled 100 patients visiting an orthopedic surgeon for the first time. Prior to the …

Nurse Leader Rounding: A Stellar Strategy To Improve The Patient Experience Of Care In The Emergency Department, Polina Shishkina

Master's Projects and Capstones

Abstract

Many clinical outcomes that occur in the emergency room determine the patient’s continued care and experience in the hospital and beyond as well as influence the organizational reputation in the community. Mack and Fill emphasize that “an ED visit is a significant encounter between a patient and a hospital and one that affects ‘repurchase’ decisions for future health care” (as cited in Welch, 2010, p. 65). Thus, patient experience in the emergency department necessitates continued quality improvement efforts. The emergency room, or “the front door to the hospital”, provides equitable and affordable care to patients who need urgent medical …

An Extensive Review Of Patient Satisfaction With Healthcare Services In Bangladesh, Abdul Kader Mohiuddin Aug 2020

An Extensive Review Of Patient Satisfaction With Healthcare Services In Bangladesh, Abdul Kader Mohiuddin

Patient Experience Journal

Patient satisfaction is a useful measure for providing quality indicators in healthcare services. Assessing patients’ satisfaction is important since it often helps, in absence of healthcare service quality indicators, to determine the quality of health-care delivery and health system responsiveness. Higher levels of patient satisfaction indicate higher levels of patient empowerment, commitment to care and compliance to recommended management–all of which results in better health outcomes. Concern over the quality of healthcare services in Bangladesh has resulted in a loss of faith in healthcare providers, low utilization of public health facilities, and increased outflows of patients from Bangladesh to hospitals …
